Dick Mermon lived on the south shore and my family lived on the north shore of Long Island, New York.

I remember a story told to me by a state game warden that went on a crow hunt with Dick Mermon when I was starting out. The wardens name was Stanley Grum and there is a photo of him in Mr. Mermons hard cover book on page 50, he is the guy in the background looking up.

I remember my dad, Stan Grum & I were hunting Bluebills on Manhassett Bay, Long Island and the subject of crows came up as we were waiting for some ducks to decoy in. Stan said that he was amazed at how many crows they shot in one afternoon, this was back in 1967. He was hunting with Dick Mermon and the two of them shot 75 odd crows that afternoon. Stan thought that was a slaughter by his standards. I could only dream of a shoot like that at that point in time.

It makes a guy think when he looks back at his formative years in crow hunting!
