Kicked off my first successful shoot of the season today. I went yesterday to obtain permission on one of my private land spots and the man who holds the hunting lease on the property exclaimed "Man, where have you been! The crows have been working these fields and i'm afraid they are cleaning out all the grain that we want the deer to feed on." He gave me a yearly hunting permit and I returned at daybreak today to try to put a dent in the crow population. Up until this year, I have been using hand calls. Purchased a Foxpro this winter and I am very well pleased with the results. The Tennessee River bottoms now have 23 less crows in the population.
I really don't think that these are the migratory birds from up north. Our spot on the south side of the Tennessee River has a huge roost and those birds have not shown up yet.
This fall I have had farmers phoning me at home to come and shoot "their" crows, which is a beautiful thing. The crows do lots of damage to sunflower crops. All because I stopped in and asked on guy. The word got out and I'll be set for crow control for years to come. Do lots of damage to sunflower crops.
Have good luck this fall Canoemac
