First, I would like to say this is a great forum and I am glad I found it. There is a lot of knowledge on here and I have enjoyed reading the posts. I have been crow hunting for about two years now and I learn more every day. My question is, what call do you normally start with at the beginning of the hunt? I know there are many factors but I find myself always questioning how to start. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I have always used hand calls before. I just purchased this week a digital caller. But, look at the calls in this store here. Those are the ones I have. I have 4 different ones I think.

If you are not stepping forward, you are stepping backwards. Time stands still no for No Man.
As Greg stated, it is usually better to start off more softly or less aggressive to bring in any close crows. Hand calling or the JS Come Here Crow, after the first few seconds of Death Cry on it, is an excellent sound in this role. As your time on stand continues, you mix in "fighting" sounds and the death cry to pull in any from longer range.
Yes, indeed. Texas Matt, Lone Star Phil and I are on a record breaking pace, for us. Our best morning to date, this year, was 75 crows last Friday on a new property for us.
I also start out soft calling if it's an AM hunt. It seems around here they like a little more hell raising on the afternoon hunts. Very little soft calling then.
Good advice from my fellow members, attabouy,,, If that dog is retrieving those birds for you be very careful sending it after cripples!!! I will be a one eyed lab real quick
Chip - She does go with me some crow hunting, primarily I use her duck hunting and dove hunting. She is very steady and will not break unless I tell her to, so I never really send her on a cripple. I get what you are saying and I agree that it is risky using a dog against them claws/beaks.
