Fish Crow Fives!

It was a great day to be a crow hunter. At 8:06 this morning we added the 100th digit to the clicker while on our way to a 171! Savannah, Allen and I had a great shoot.

Allen had one crow come in so fast in a power dive that when it pulled up it did a complete vertical loop right in front of him. He made what appeared to be a perfect shot but the crow banked so hard that the shot string flew right under it. He made quick work of it with a second shot.

We both made some fantastic shots on some really tall birds. There were lots of fish crows that hung up high and thus were subjected to fives. Allen deemed them "Fish Crow Fives" and man do they work. Some will think I am exaggerating but there is no telling how many 70+ yard shots were made today. One flock of fish crows was estimated to be 400-500 birds. Most fish crows I have ever seen at one time. Our migratory birds are defiantly here.

According to the land owner, the orchard we shot today is at least 100 years old. Nestled in the planted pines, it was truly picturesque. The TALL pecans, short pines, and uneducated feisty birds made for some intense shooting. Some would come in skimming the pine tops and racing through the canopy of the tall pecans. Others would be passing by and then power dive into the spread and pull up at the last second. Fish crows would float high and proud.

We closed the day out with our friend Carl and his dog Tap with a little squirrel hunting. If you have not hunted squirrels over a good tree dog you just haven't lived yet!

First pic is a fish crow and an American crow.

Drove across the northern portion of your state yesterday and from what I can see you have more on the way! Lots (and I mean lots) of crows using the fields in the Walnut / Corinth area.

 biggrin

With the height of the trees some birds would hang up high and far then circle over us before descending. We had MANY do this and never see us even when they were directly overhead. Had one bird circle us 4 times before I put him on the ground.
