Have permission to hunt a small parcel less than 1/4 mile from an active landfill. It is also an active flyway. Last year we would go out and set up before dawn and have a blast when the birds would come over and decoy in, the only problem was they would still be in a large flock. Bang, bang and it was over. Would we be better off skipping the morning flyover and picking them off as they headed back to the landfill in smaller family flocks?
Arnold, I also hunt a landfill by a river & I find that there are no 2 days alike. Sometimes mornings are good, sometimes afternoons & some days theres not a crow in sight. I have learned that theres many more birds when theres snow on the ground & they don't have as much access to food. I really think my landfill spot is a winter place, but i go there allthe time it's close to home & easy.
ya i never hunt it during the summer session here in MI. Our winter season is from Feb. 1 to the end of March thats why the dump is so appealing for the crows in the winter. Seems like they come back to the landfill area wich is just out of the city limits after they fly out of the city in the morning
