Since I live near Ithaca, NY and Cornell University with their Lab of Ornithology, I read about some interesting data in the local paper. This year, one bird species with a particularly weak showing was the crow. Last year, local birders counted 9,000, and this year, because the weather has been warmer and hasn't driven the crows to roost yet, birders counted only 2,000. That would explain the difference in what I am seeing! If you have never visited Cornell's web site, it is worth looking up the Ornithology Lab to learn more about the crow. Here's a link: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Crow/id/nc
There is a lot of great info on that site. I have spent a good bit of time browsing there. They have an extensive library of sounds too. Fun to listen to.

I shoot twice a week here and some days I think we have more than normal and other days I think our numbers are down. Non the less if I can get out and shoot 30 crows in a morning I'm pretty happy. I think i will see a big difference now that we have 8 inches of snow.
