Around Upstate NY they seems to roost in and around the cities in big numbers (Auburn, Cortland, Geneva have bad problems).  I find that by late afternoon 1/2 hour to an hour before sunset they are heading to roost and don't see too many.  I have had luck early morning rather than afternoon, and have set up in the dark in order to catch some flying even before sunrise.

Where ever they want.   biggrin

Generally, where ever they feel safe. In my area it is usually within town limits. Can't hunt them. Bright lights all night to see by. And owls usually not present. There is a steady stream of them starting about 2 hours before sunset. And I mean a steady stream........
