New to crow busters but definately not new to shootin crows. used to live out in California and hunt them in the orchards of the San Jauquin valley. Moved to New Mexico a few years back and was blown away to find out they don't have a crow season here. My passion is ducks and geese, so i checked into that before moving here. never thought i would see the day where there was a state that you actually cannot shoot crows in. needless to say, it left a whole in my soul that needed to be filled. so i have set out on an adventure of making decoys and then going out and calling them in to see how well they work on our extremely unpressured birds. it was truly a rush to be able to go out and run a set up again and have them black bastages come swoopin in to decoys that i made. anyways, since i have the bug again i searched out a crow forum and well, the rest is history. since i cannot shoot these birds here, i have started a decoy company to try and fill a little need i have to be a part of this. hence my name, Shadow-Outdoors. I would like to become a sponsor here and be able to offer my decoys for sale to the people that are truly in the game. so if someone could point me in the right direction on who to speak with, it would be truly appreciated. i will not spam the site with BS, nor post pics of my decoys until a sponsorship has been approved. hanks for any help given on who to talk to.
BH, by not having a formal season in Texas, does that mean you can hunt them all year or are you not supposed to hunt them at all ? In NY certain things like starlings, pigeons & red squirrels for example, you can shoot all year with no limits & other things like song birds & doves you can never hunt.
The view of the game wardens here is that if it is not specifically named, then you cannot hunt it. Crows, starlings and rock doves (pigeons) are named. Mourning doves, ravens, and loons are not named, so cannot be hunted......
And as Big Honkers stated...."I'd be making some calls."

I am sure one of the TPC boys will chime in shortly, but I think it means they can only shoot them if they are being a nuisance. I believe they define nuisance by common sense terms and for the most part leave it up the landowner to decide. I don't think there is a formal permit to obtain in Texas, just make a judgement call and SHOOT!
I gather this form reading several threads the boy's form the Long Star State have participated in. I am curious to know how accurate I am.

I was under the impression that all states had to have a season, limiting hunting to like 160 days a year. Think it has something to do with a treaty with Mexico.
it's kind of the same way here as mentioned above. if they aren't specifically named, you cannot shoot them. at least that's the way the GW explained it to me when asked. i find it assanine that they would be protected but this is also the state where Canada Geese have a special season that runs for 1 month, January, and you can shoot 2 geese for the entire season. they consider the geese that come down through the Rio Grande valley to be a special subspecies and are therefore semi-protected. even though they get blasted in Colorado with no crazy restrictions. ain't NM fun
Thanks Mike. they are solely mine. wanted something inexpensive, yet effective. silos are perfect, IMHO, for that. and mine, being fully flocked, are very black with absolutely zero shine. here are a couple teasers.....lol
In Texas, crows, grackles, and blackbirds may be controlled without a federal or state depredation permit when found committing or about to commit depredations on ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock or wildlife, or when concentrated in numbers and in a manner that constitutes a health hazard or other nuisance.
Nice to see you here Randy, welcome from Maine. My mother in law lives in Taos. How far are you from there? I'll be out there in a few months.
Kev
i am about 3.5 hours south of there. you are gonna love it. it's awesome up there, especially in the springtime. just don't mention hunting to people wearing Birkenstocks or if their breath smells of Granola and you will be just fine....
