lookin for some input, wanting to try a new choke tube, i'm shooting modified right now but want to try a improved modified or a light modified, not really sure yet. most shots are from 30 to 55 yds  i'm shooting remington nitro premier sp loads in 7 1/2  modified seems to work just wondering if anyone has tried the other tubes.

The patterning board will be your best friend. A picture is worth a 1K words!

That is where I would start. Works well 0 to as far as you can point. It is what I shoot. It is just personal preference. Other will say more open. Some will say turkey choke.

And as M12 said, start punching paper and see what it looks like.

The nice thing about the imp/mod over a full or extra full is that it's a little more forgiving if you do close decoying birds. If they're in close, that extra full is like trying to hit them with a golf ball. I think m12 has the best idea, pattern them at different distances.

I use a Comp-N-Choke Improved Modified choke for all of my crow hunting............I really like it, it is really like the best of both worlds......

C4C: There are probably several 'correct' answers here, but you are using some fine ammo that tends to pattern very well. Shots in the range you mentioned I would continue to use Mod... It is very easy to over-choke... The ranges you mention are about the ranges I consider "kill zone" and I use light mod.. or a constriction of .015. Anything much tighter than Mod... finds me hustling to hit those 15-20 yard birds with consistency. You will get lots of opinions here.. but the one to "pattern your gun" is the best so far..

Skip you're right on the ammo part, I load my own & they're very consistent. I think m12 is right pattern it.

I have patterned or help to pattern about 10 shotguns in the last couple of years. It is ridiculous how different each and every one of them is from the other.

One gun will pattern great with MOD choke, the next one patterns tighter with an IC choke. Makes no sense sometimes.

My Buddy's Benelli pattern awesome with #2 shot and bigger, but had large holes in the pattern using 4's and smaller.

Like many others on here have said, shoot it on paper or cardboard and see how the pattern is.

My Winchester SXP shoots awesome with Light MOD. I really like the Carlson Extended choke tubes. Own a few of them and can definitely recommend them.

Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

40-45 yards max. I originally bought it for duck/goose and using steel shot, but it patterned so well "crow loads" that I used it for those as well.

I also use it on the seet range with good success.
