I know nothing about modern air rifles, so I have quick question. Is it true that due to the reverse recoil and harmonics that some scopes will not hold up to an air gun. I have heard of folks using rifle scopes on air guns and having the reticles break in them.
Puppy-popper, spring action air-guns especially the magnum spring guns can damage scopes...when a spring powered air rifle is fired the spring decompresses...the spring violently slaps backward and forward creating a whip-lash affect on the retical...PCP air guns are recoilless and have no adverse affect on scopes nor are they hold sensitive like the spring-guns are...after shooting a PCP I sold my spring gun and never looked back...Outstanding work Gadget!!!...I know you Rott. enjoyed playing stretch armstrong with the little tree-rat....Crowtec

What is your maximum range with that .22 cal air rifle? Say on a pigeon or crow sized target? How much does the pellet weigh? I'm just guessing now but $800.00 is my guess for that rig.

Bob, I have killed pigeons and starlings @ 60 and 70 yards. so thus far my maxium ranged kill is 70 yards... most of my shots are 35 to 55 yards with the 22 cal. I am shooting a 18.13 grain pellet...precision air-guns are not inexpensive by any means....800.00 will get you a nice PCP air-rifle...but many have spent more than that for sure...Crowtec
When an air rifle is a PCP how many shots do you get before you have to use another cylender of air? What do you have to pay for those cylenders? Do you just screw them in? Do you load each individual pellet or does that rifle hold more than one?
Years ago I used a .20 cal air rifle with a scope. 30 yards was my maximum effective range but it was very accurate. 6 to 8 pumps would kill any rodent.

Bob, on a PCP air-rifle the air-tube comes with the rifle and is permanently attached...it is never removed...you fill the rifle air-tube with a scuba tank...I get 40 shots per fill on the rifle...I get roughly 40 fills from my tank...the scuba shop charges me $6.00 dollars to fill my tank ( Cheap ) less than a box of Nitro 27...my rifle uses a 10 shot rotary magazine that auto indexes the next pellet in line with the chamber when the bolt is brought rear-ward...the 20 cal is a great pellet...fast and flat shooting...just not a lot of pellet variety to choose from...but a great pellet for sure...Crowtec
Where is your rifle made? What power scope do you like on a rifle like yours? Say with a 5 to 10 mph cross wind how far do you have to "hold off" at say 30 yards with your rifle to hit the target dead center? What is the muzzle velocity on that rifle? My old Sherriden was roughly 650 fps with 6 pumps.
That is really a nice looking you have there!

I have an RWS Model 37 .177 spring rifle with a 4X RWS scope. Longest crow hits were a pair promenading in a good neigbor's yard at 62 yards. Muzzle velocity is about 900 fps with a 4.5 grain pellet. Holdover at that range with scope zeroed at 22 yards was about 12 inches. First crow was DRT. It's mate hopped over to find out why Bubba was non-responsive and received the second missile. Second crow did not expire and had to be terminated by the hounds.
Air rifles have sure come a very long way during the past 45 years. All there was when I was a kid were the .17 cal and the 20 cal air rifles. Man, now they have them in .22 cal on up to .25 cal I am not well informed on air rifles today but they do interest me. When I was a kid the .17 cal air rifles were pretty poor, perhaps it was the pellets they used in those days. The .20 cal was far superior in those days in my opinion.
The yardage you guys can kill pigeons & crows at was un heard of 45 years ago.
Phil, I was reading a few years ago that the .17 cal was more accurate than the .22 cal but I also see that things must have changed. If David can kill starlings pretty easily between 35 to 55 yards and his longest kills are as far as 70 yards with the .22 cal they must have improved the .22 cal greatly in recent years. Is this true? It seems true to me, but I know little on this subject.

My rifle was made in England by Daystate...FX rifles are made in Sweden...Air-Guns of Arizona is running a special on the FX Typhoon...a very very nice rifle for $795.00...visit their web site and check out some of the in depth rifle review videos they have up-loaded for viewing...their videos are very informative on the operation and performance of a variety of air-rifles...I have a Weaver 4.5 X 16 you need to have a scope that has a low parallax adjustment for air-rifles...mine will focus down to 10 yards at 16 power...with an 18 grain pellet my average FPS is 850...my rifle is zeroed at 50 yds. so on a 30 yd. shot I would favor slightly low on target...the 22 cal. bucks the wind pretty good so with a 10 mph right to left cross wind you favor slightly right but not much at 30 yards. Thanks for the complement on my rifle...a precision air-gun is an amazingly accurate piece of equipment...and they are a lot of fun...I have killed a pile of critters with mine...Crowtec
You're right, ALL projectile-emitting devices have come a great way in the last thiry years. Fortunately or unfortunately, there is not a long or hand gun that I possess that I am capable of utilizing to the fullest extent of its capability. And I have some pretty basic, plebian arms.

I too shoot PCP's.. If you think crow hunting is addictive air rifles are = if not greater.. Crowtec the Daysate is simply the best in my opinion. I own FX, AA and RWS etc.. I was able to shoot the Daystate at Airgunsofarizona and OMG what a unbelievable rifle..You are fortunate to own one.. I was out shooting pigeons one afternoon and when I was leaving I saw a crow out in a field feeding I stopped my car, pulled out the FX Trantula, held over ~4" and the diablo hit em right in the breast. DRT (dead right there).. Stepped it of at 74 yards..I've also killed black birds at 65yds +.. The .177 is a flat shooter.. The 22 has the knock down for pretty much any "yard varmint." Thanks for sharing..
