BENILLI Super Black Eagle owners breakin it in
Permalink

Last year I decided it was time to get a new shot gun. I had a extrema 391 7 years old and like it but I now have arthritus in my hands and wrist and thought it would be less recoil. I do shoot lots of trap and skeet but I hand load and do not shoot anything over 1150 fps and I can do fine with mod 12 or my o/u  due to weight. I found out after I bot the gun that the breakin means you must shoot 1250 to get the gun to breakin. So far I have not shoot to many rounds because much recoil really sends shock waves down my hands into my wrist and its not pleasant. Can any owners of said gun give me any hope that it will eventuallu be able to eject 1100 fps crow loads.  TY  Jim from Ga

Yes it will. I have two of them a SBE I and II. Just keep running rounds down the pipe and it will start kicking them out. I mainly shoot 1 1/8th loads in my and it does well with them. I can tell you a quick way to loosen it up but I would catch hell talking about it here. It has something to do with sheetrock dust.

@ James: i"ll be honest with you, the benelli is a recoil operated gun as far as I know. A gas operated will kick less. For example the winchester (sx5?). You could get a moderator choke for yours to lessen the recoil though. Breaking it in usually means getting it to shoot weaker loads (24gr).

A better choice would have been the Beretta A400 light field, it only does 3" magnum max, and cycles ANYTHING from 21 gram or 50 gram loads perfectly. I have 4 types of arthritis, all through my body, plus Spondulitus, so I know what you're going brought. The A400 Light Field with Kick Off system is perfect, and is what I chose, and I regularly shoot 36 gram loads through it too.

James,

I have never heard of having to "break-in" any shotgun. But I have'nt heard of a lot of things.

I hope you did not know that your Benelli would have to idle through a break-in period, before your purchased it. Since it is recoil operated, it will kick (an unwanted demon) more than a same weight gas operated shotgun.

I would like to suggest you do this: next time you want a new-to-you shotgun, watch Gunbroker.com and find a SKB model 1300 or 1900, that appears to be in very good condition. If you can afford a "break-in-Benelli", you can certainly afford a SKB, as they are about 1/2 the price of Benelli. The SKB's are hard to find that are in good condition, but are wonderful to shoot, and are gas operated. Unfortunately, new ones are no longer available in the USA, unless you luck up and find one.

I continue to fail to understand why shooters  are so fascinated with Benelli, Beretta, and Browning automatic shotguns. Particularly the latest models, which with all those molded plastic parts, look as though Matel, or Fisher-Price toy company made them. Just my opinion.

Within the past 2 years, I sold 4 Browning shotguns I had, sold my Beretta, and one real nice Remington 1187. And now shoot only SKB guns.

Thank you, but I will stick with the SKB automatics! At least until something better comes along!

Stay cool!

Normal break in person on any new auto or pump ( that is till the rough bits are smothed on the action rods etc), is generally quoted by manufacturers as being about 300 rounds. Mine functioned perfectly after about 200 rounds.
You could also fit an aftermarket recoil system on the butt, the best are the ones Woking on springs with hydraulic dampers.

Thanks for all the opinions. The reason I got the BSE was two of my hunting partners had them and I had shot them. Also the Benilli advertised the recoil system so I did not buy a pig in a poke. I like the gun I liked the Beretta. You guys that like guns I am sure all of us readers LOL know every now and then you get the hankering to just get something different to shoot. I have an 1973 Browning a5 20ga vent rib that I have had for fifty years. That was my fav gun on for birds. I raised and hunted with German Wire Hairs back in the 70s. Way before they became more popular. I very seldom missed doves or pheasant hunting with my dogs. I had the gun in the box for 35 years. It is like new. I did take it out the shoot crows a few years back but was always afraid I would get a scratch on it. I would have used it more but the recoil on that gun now was not good for my arms hands etc. So I am going to sell it with extra barrel for skeet. It was a fab crow killer. Now back to the BSE. I gave my SBE to my one hunting best friend and he has worked on the action and bolt to make it much smoother. He is an ace with mechanical stuff. So no matter I know I will be happy shooting and reloading. I will not shoot mag shells in the. I am over killing geese! Again thanks for all tips.

Hopethe arthritis doesn't hurt too much, I have to take lots of pain medication every day, but still manage to shoot, but have got the Beretta fitted with the Kick Off recoil system

I have an m2 and it will eject 1ounce 1185 sts as reliable as any semi-auto does. The key to any semi is clean the action of powder residue every time it malfunctions, a can of jet-air like for computer keyboard is all it takes. You can even carry one with you if you know you will shoot a lot of rounds. Also let other people shoot it with some heavier loads if you want to "loosen" it up a little.

X2 on the Beretta A400. Kick-off feature reduces recoil to a very manageable level. I shot clays with one this spring and if I was to but a new auto the A400 would be it.

Very good advice, but I loosened mine up with some 3 inch wildfowling (duck) loads very quickly.
