Took out the 20 gauges today for some fun in the sun. The Wifes remington 1100 and my Mossberg/Maverick Model 88.

Both seem to work for the first 75 shells threw um' But I brought along 250 rounds. So I Allowed the barrels to cool as I Talked with the Farmers workers and just watched the birds land with my decoy spread...

I Dropped 3 doubles with a shot at each of the pair of birds, and 1 triple with 1 shell. Was a waste of good ammo when I was having to shoot some Birds more then once after I dropped them....

So I Used up all 250 20 gauge shells and Brought home 127 Birds and Lost 16 to the neighbors Property.....

So it was my best day ever... Beating my old record of only 47 birds.... Yet I didn't think I dropped so many pigeons till I started to count them as I stock piled them in the back of my truck... 127 ..... Total with them I couldn't retreive.... 133 birds....

Scottie,

The last photo at the bottom I like the best. What were the temps like when you were shooting that day?

How long were you there?

Hello Bob, I Dropped alot more birds after I took that Picture with my cell phone of the harvested spread of decoys... Started out with just 4 Dove decoys on stakes and staked them on a small pile of silage where it would look like they was feeding.... I really need a Wing spinner dove or Mojo Dove... As Movement eye appeal...

It was a bright Sunny Day in the upper 80's with a breeze out of the north that didn't cool it down at all. I Sat with my Back Facing the Barn doors in the shadows,so I could see the Wings in the sky to my left as the birds flew in so i didn't have to keep looking over my left shoulder for the birds...

This same farm i have harvested well over 400 pigeons.... Last record was only 47 birds and I hammered that one.....And yet the next time I head there which will be in two three weeks, there will be large numbers all over again.. Not to sure where they are coming from... maybe the City Of bath N.Y...... or hornell N.Y. Either I Like the Targets and have a lad interested this time around in me plucking all the long feathers for him to use as bobcat eye appeal at his sets this fall trapping.....

Take care and best wishes.. hurry Up September arrive ... I have cases Loaded for the 12 gauge over under and the semi auto.... As i want to get out and get some Crows....

Nice shooting and thanks for the pics! I also like the looks of the last picture.

From the looks of the second picture, it appears like you took the time to pick up your wads. Good work.

Big_honkers, yepper I take the tip to remove all traces when ever i go hunting, as If not for Land owners and Farmers i wouldn't have many Places to hunt.. So i try and do my part to respect them and be respectful....

As it was this Farmers Relative that Told lined this farm up for me to help control some pigeons for them.... At the other farm I was Harvesting Pigeons,Starlings and commen Crows.... I Said to him one day while at the silage bunker, sure isn't very many pigeons left and shooting starlings seem like very little bang for the amount of ammo needed..He said heck go shoot up Pigeons for my Cuz john, and pointed to the farm a Hillside away all in view of the silage Bunker...

The rest has been History....

John Asked me Saturday why I haven't been bring my nephew along lately.. I Said as he gets Bored after 2 1/2 hours and eats up all my Prezels and want to head home By a dead line.... I make the day of it and bring Lots of ammo, drinks,my cooler and coffee and chips or candy bars.....

Bucket to sit on and crates for the spent shells and wads. and atless 2 shotgun if not three.. normally I take my 12 gauge remington model 48 Sportsman,My over under 12 gauge Mossberg Silver reverse and the wifes 20 gauge remington 1100..... I Felt it was time to give the 20gauge guns time alone so i took the 1100 and a Mossberg/maverick 88 20 gauges that I just picked up locally...

I am a dead shot with this Mossberg 88 20ga. and it has screw in chokes ...Now if I could Find any Local Stores that Sell 20 gauge wads i would be set, I just got a lee Load all 20ga, and have primers,Hulls and #6 and #7 1/2 shot...... But Can't Find even 100-500 Wads Unless I order them threw bass Pro Shop and thats two weeks wait.....As we all Know Mail has become a Slow Delivery Process......

For the 12 gauge Hulls I have over 300 Wads..... And reload them with my Mec Jr 600.....

So I may have to make a post on the For sale/ wanted zone here and try and gather some 20 ga waddings......

Best wishes all, and I Wish I took a better Pic of the decoy spread out..... And I thought I would need to Order www.SoarNoMore.com Rock Pigeon full body Decoys to reach 100 Birds.. saved myself 60.00 pr 6 decoys....

Scottie,

I have a funny story about my old pal Jerry Byroade whom I hunted crows with for 5 years before he passed away from cancer.

He hunted pigeons in NY State, PA, and Maryland. To make the long story short he invited his friend and his friend said he had other things to do that day. Jerry went alone and killed a little over 500 pigeons by himself that day. His friend said no way when Jerry pulled into his driveway. Jerry said take a look in the bed of the pickup and so his friend did just that. A minute or two later his friend started to throw up from the tension plus missing out on one hell of a hunt! True story may God strike me graveyard dead!

Feral pigeons are lots of fun. They fly more like puddle ducks than anything else. Thanks for sharing

Decided tonight to order a mojo Dove Decoy...... i Am sure the Movement and eye appeal with my other dove decoys, that the pigeons will not be all to happy with me....

Also I Bought a Benellia Nova Fully Camo, a Remington 1187 and a remington 572 for the strays walking on the ground ,instead of wasting another 12 gauge shell on them....

The plus was all the 8 chokes that I bought for my mossberg Silver reverse 12 ga, also Fit the benelli Nova 12 gauge.... So it will be my waterfowl, crow and pigeon gun if i want more then two shots.....

And the Remington 1187 is just a Dream on waterfowl and birds of all types....
