On my one and only hunt had my vehicle parked about 200 yards away kinda backed in to some trees and brush. Seemed to work.

200 yards is plenty. I know I do not always park that far away.

One spot I hunted about two or three times a year, the crows actually recognized my car after a while. They would leave the area until I was gone.
Had to use my wife's car after that for that particular spot.

Hi L28,

Like Jason and Pat mentioned, it is probably a good idea to hide your vehicle.  That being said, we have put decoys and the FoxPro on my truck, as well as my ATV, and been successful calling crows to it.

Like Pat said, I also beleive they can learn to avoid certain vehicles.  Hiding yours under trees or next to other farm equipment is a "best practice".

Regards,

I have shot many crows with my caller placed right on the top of my vehicle, if you can believe that. I would not recommend this strategy but it does work along woodland roads and such. When running and gunning I usually call from no further than 100 yards from my truck as time is crows. When hunting from an "established" blind I generally use the 200 yard rule. Further, I feel some vehicles tend to spook crows more than others. My friend has a blue and white half ton and crows avoid it like the plague. My SUV is sage green and crows seem not to notice it much.

Thanks so much guys for your responses. I'm gonna head out soon for second try at this fun. I call it fun because the first time you couldn't get the grin off my face for a week.

I can remember time some 30+ years ago before being able to afford an e-caller, pulling over on the side of a dirt road by a big dump, open the doors and playing a crow fight tape on the stereo of the truck.  Then shoot them as they came to check it out. Worked about every time.
