This shoot (4th) was the best of the season so far..Picked up 93 / killed 97.. Very few call shy birds, perfect weather.. Great set up , etc. Actually got a visit from the local sheriff.. He drove up and down the road trying to find us.. We ended up double tapping a crow and shot over his vehicle.. ~ 150 from us.. I got out of the blind and went down and talked with him. Very nice guy.. He said some neighbor had heard shooting for the last 3 hours and wanted to know what was going on. I told him what we doing and he said “CROWS.” I told him I had about 50 so far and asked him if he wanted any.. He said “$$%T no.”He said kill ‘em all, there’s a lot of them around here. He said I’ll go tell the neighbors what is going on and drove off.. The place we shot has a lot of history and absolutly beautiful location..Ever heard the expression a “brick” $hiyt house.. Well here you go..It really is out house and operational for many years..

Bravo Mark, and great story! I like your blind location as well. Did that big old tree off to the right cause a bit of trouble when getting at the crows. Keep up the spendid work.

Hey M12, The tree actually worked really well for us.. The crows were flying up a "lane" in the pecan orchard and the tree kept us hidden.. My partner went out to retrieve a "downed bird" outisde the decoys and a crow came in and spotted him and flared to the left.. I shot between two huge limbs with very little "sight picture" and dropped him. I was surprised I killed him.. We killed ~6 fish crows on this shoot.. The locating is very close to a huge lake and there is a nice population of fish crows.. We will shoot it again in ~ 2 weeks with the manangers grandson ( age 12)..
Mark, that blind location would be one of them that a guy could use every season for years. Nice high spot with good viability in a pecan orchard which from what I read is considered "crow candy".

I just went to lunch at my local burger joint that has a gravel parking area for large trucks etc.. I ate in my truck and had some fries left over and just as I was leaving I saw three LC’s (local crows) come in and landed around the lot,/ Two posted up in small pines and one on a power line overlooking the parking area. I pulled up to the center of the lot and dumped out the remainder of my fries. I then drove right under the crow sitting on the power line and looked him right in the eye… He looked back and when I pulled away all three hit the ground after the food.. Now, look what I had still in my truck bed from yesterday.. I’d say these crows were “Honey Badger” Crows.. They just didn’t care about their fallen cousins..
Just for the fun of it I will present this picture...This is at the same place that has the brick "s" house.. Talk about a structure that was built to last? A concrete roof.. WOW.. I can't go into much detail because I didn't get permission from the owner, but this structure is of some significant history to folks in my region.

We shot the orchard we shot two weeks for the 2nd time on Saturday. The condition was that the manager's grandson (age 11) had to go with us in an effort for him to learn how to hunt crows. What a great kid!! He shoots well, he's safety conscious, pays attention, follow instructions and listens.. A very good kid to spend time with all around.. We picked up 85.. When we took him back to “grandma's house;" his grandmother came out and I told her what a delight he is to be around and I apologized to her and told her we "just ruined him." She looked at him and said "well I guess we're going to have to go get you some decoys, a call and some ammo." He shook his head and said "no, I'm going with these guys." No other words he could have said could have made us feel any better... Check out the view we had all morning..
No better time spent, in my opinion, than in a blind with a kid. Great story and hope he gets to hunt with you in the future. We need a good crop of junior hunters and target shooters to keep the American gun tradition alive! Seems that there are way too many people who are trying to end it forever!

I totally agree! I am 13 and I've been hunting for years. I'm so glad that my dad took me hunting!
Here's a picture of where we set up when we just removed the blind.. We are some messy hunters.. We do clean everything up.. I mean everything!! Notice the oak limb hanging in the pecan tree to block the sun..It worked very well..
We shot the same place again and picked up 44.. Shot with the manager's grandson.. A three shot total of 226.. . Check out the picture of the wad stuck in the end of s limb.. A crow was getting out of the area and I shot and cut the limb.. The crow lived to see another day..
I like your blind location as well. Did that big old tree off to the right cause a bit of trouble when getting at the crows. Keep up the spendid work.
