Bob, you mentioned the 'National Crow Shoot' in Islands' post about Jerry Tomlin.  I'm starting a new topic as to not hijack that thread.    Anyway, how did the shoot work?  Who sponsored it? How many crows did you and Jerry shoot?

Hello Matt,

The American Crow Hunters Association hosts this event in Tennessee every year in june or july.

The day Jerry & I won it rained most of the day and the crows just sat tight! The two of us won with 5 crows between us!!!!! I think we were the only two crazy guys out there that day, LOL.

Interesting Bob, does the American Crow Hunters Association still exist? If so, seems like they should be on this site frequently to gather members?

Hi Matt,

I'm pretty sure they are still around.

If your interested just give one of the officers a call and they will tell you the date of the next get together in June or July.

It was nice to do once, but to be frank it just isn't worth the drive for such poor shooting.

They have been around for awhile, I found a book/phamplet on crow hunting written by one of the former referee's. It's kind of interesting and has some good insights into the sport.

Phil,

That reminds me of the old timers dusking Black Ducks under a full moon on the east coast. Great way to really spook the ducks, but they didn't care.

Obviously these guys took crow hunting serious when it came to their equipment and shells.

Too funny! I loved the quote in the pic, "with a load as HEAVY as you like". Maybe a 1 1/2oz of # 5's in the big ol' ten gauge....
