A pair of beagles would have sure helped getting those rabbits moving.

Thats nice country, looks a lot like reno county where I live.

Hi Arnold,

My crow hunting partner Dick hunts rabbits with two black guys (good guys) he does not shoot, he just carries the dead rabbits for them. He loves the excersize with all the walking. They use 4 beagles, two at a time to hunt rabbits. He gets a good ribbing from them saying "yup, we have our very own white boy carry our rabbits for us" Dick is one of the nicest guys you ever want to meet. He has shot every type of big game in North America.

Probably shouldn't feed your dog peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Just sayin.

I'm glad someone is getting them without dogs. The only thing I get when I go out for rabbit (since I have no dogs for this) is exercise.

Good video!

Good video!

Are you jumping on brush piles?  When I was younger without a rabbit dog, there were only 2 types of places that I consistantly found cottontails. Under brush piles and along the railroad tracks.  We use to get on top of the brush piles and start bouncing on them to really shake the whole pile. They would squirt out in all directions sometimes. Then one of us would walk all around the couple acres surrounding the pile and get a few shots and the other guy would wait quietly somewhere near the pile for some to return. Along the railroad tracks we would walk a mile between roads. Walk on one side of the tracks going away from the truck and return on the other side. We shot many, many rabbits and pheasants doing that. This was all when I lived in N/W Ohio back in the 70's and 80's.

HA!!!! Reminds me of the 70's. I used to be a hardcore rabbit hunterbiggrin Had some outstanding beagle power. We hunted with rifles for years. Take the rear site off and only use the front sight. Start poppin and watch the mud fly til you got your lead right and roll em. Nothin but subdivisions and superwalmarts where I used to hunt now. Its a Shame I can remember in the late 60's duck taping my gun to the handle bars of my bike, and my dog would follow along til I got to the RR tracks. I would barely get my gun untaped before my dog would strike. Them were the days!!!!! Hell its an act of terrorism to hunt on RR tracks nowno

Mainehunt - I only hunt public land, as I have no land of my own, and there are not many with RR tracks or large brush piles. I try to find old fence lines, and any brush piles that do exist. In the couple years that I've tried hunting them I've seen 3 total and shot 1. Usually I end up going after squirrels after a few hours of no luck.

Chip, you reminded me of when I taped some heavy number 9 wire to my handlebars of my bike. I bent the wire ip in a U-shape to act as a gun rack. I started out with an old Springfield break-action single shot .410.  I received it as a Christmas present the year I turned 13.  It bleonged to my great uncle Jake when he was a boy. I have a photo of him when he was about 12 years old. In the photo he's holding the shotgun and there is a mongrel dog at his side. I still have the gun. One of these days I'm going to take it to the crow blind just for old times sake.smile
