I haven't been on the forum in quite some time, in fact this is my first post on the new Crow Busters format. I certainly like the way it's set up. Not long ago I had a complete shoulder replacement done, and althought I'm feeling back to normal, the Doc says no shooting a gun for the next 6 months (he said nothing about shooting with my camera, however). I was playing around shooting some shots of crows in flight and ended up with a few that I kind of like. The first shot is of a starling taking a worm back to it's nest. Hope you like the photos. Your still photos are among the best I have ever seen. Really outstanding. I like the way the lighting is hitting the starling in flight. The power stroke on the crow in flight is a very good closeup photo. Here is a similar photo that I took years ago on a crow hunt but the photo does not hold a candle to yours.
Mike: Superb photos... more of the same.. would be very well received.. and glad you are back on the board... and hope your shoulder recovery is quick and uneventful.
Old Artilleryman.....Thank you. To freeze the motion, I have to shoot at a minimum shutter speed of 1/1000 sec. Ideally, I like to shoot at 1/2000 sec of faster.
Bob.....Thank you very much, sir. I appreciate the kind words. Your photo was taken on a hunting trip and there is no way you can get a bird like that up close enough without a fairly long telephoto lens. I'm shooting with a Canon DSLR and a 400 mm lens which is really designed for the type of photography that I enjoy doing. My "point and shoot" camera that is always in my hunting bag, would never even come close to getting the type of pictures that I get with my "big camera." Your photo is cool, Bob.....I see the gun, and the crow who is about to come to an untimely demise.
Skip.....I appreciate your thoughtful comments. My shoulder surgery is coming along fine. I'm back to doing most everything I normally do, but I cannot shoot a shotgun for 6 months (docs orders). I'm also not allowed to lift any thing unless it is very light. That is actually a good thing. It gets me out of doing a lot of "honey do's" around the house.

Great photos with nice detail. What equipment were you using?
I think you need to invest in a 3D printer and you'd be golden making decoys!
John
John....I shoot with a Canon DSLR......mostly a 1D Mark IV, 7D, or a 5D Mark II. The lens that I was using for the photos in this post is a Canon 100-400 IS, L series zoom. I think the decoy making business is prolly not going to happen.

Thanks for the info. I have a Canon XSi DSLR and a535-250mm IS lens. I've been looking into somehow getting a higher lens for nature shots and your pictures really make a compelling case.
Amazing photos! Did shooting left handed (or right handed if you're a lefty) ever cross your mind?
NGillespie 10.....In 2005 I had my right shoulder replaced and had to shoot left handed for several months (I'm normally right handed). This time, with my left shoulder being replaced, I figured I'd easily be able to shoot right handed.......the doctor said absolutely no shooting left or right handed. The man is quite conservative, as far as protecting the shoulder from any type of damage. He says that the plastic part that articulates with the ball is held together by screws and glue. It will not become stable for several months (minimum).

Hi Bob.....I'm taking it easy and not planning on undoing all the good work that was done on my shoulder. I live in Fresno, about 3 hours south of Sacramento......about 175 miles. I actually do a fair amount of photography at the wildlife refuges in the Sacramento area. My favorite is the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge.
Mike
Mainehunt.....Thank you, and I will take more, but I like to shoot photos of all types of birds, especially waterfowl.

I would love to see that, I'm a duck and goose hunter too.
