Some more photos....a mixture of stuff

Here are a variety of pictures that give you an idea of the kind of stuff I like to photograph.  I'm a hardcore waterfowler, so the majority of my images are of ducks and geese, but I enjoy photographing all kinds of birds.  My dogs get photographed a lot as does my granddaughter.  

#1 Pair of Canada Geese in a quiet hole on the river

LD, absolutly beautiful and priceless pictures.. We have a pair of hawks with a nest across the street from me. My neighbor took these pics.. We have had a lot of rain lately and the last pic is of mom "wet'" Skip seems to think they are Brown Shoulder Hawks..

Guys.....I sure do thank you all for the very kind thoughts and comments you made.  I do put time into my photography, but it's all great fun.....a labor of love, so to speak.  To me the secret of any animal or bird photography is in the eyes.  It's important to have the eye(s) sharp and visable.....really brings life to the photo.   Crows are particularly difficult to get the eyes, because of the all black color of the birds....hard to get the eyes to show up very well.....but hey are definitely a fun challenge for me.

 

Mark, that is a red-shouldered hawk you photographed.  They are a very cool looking hawk, and I'm alway trying to find a nesting pair to photograph.  Their nests are always in the shade and that makes it necessary to use flash to light the subjects up.

Mark.....A couple of years ago, I photographed a red-shouldered hawk and posted it as a Cooper's hawk.:o    Since I was a biology major in college with an emphasis in ornithology, that was a major faux pas on my part.  All my buddies were very quick to point that out. :l :l

rare red shouldered hawks-the prettiest buteo hawk (soaring hawk) of my area. they are practically extinct here not helped by the governments' introduction of the west nile virus and the fischer cat a vile weasel we didn't need!

 We are fortunate out here in the west to still have a pretty good population of red-shouldered hawks.  Here's a shot of one I got awhile back.

Mike - great photos, especially that one of the pintail.  You can see every detail of his feathers.  Can you tell us what kind of set up you are using, particularly the lens???  thanks.

PS - I have had a lot of fun shooting pigeons at feed lots also

 Bill....I use a Canon 5D III, and a Canon 7D.  My lenses are all Canon L series: 100-400 zoom, 400 mm f/5.6 prime, and a 300mm f2.8 prime.
