Anyone else ready for the season to start?

I know the middle of summer isn't really the best time to hunt but I still wouldn't mind getting some running and gunning in! Here in Ohio the season starts back up June 1st, and I know I'm not the only one ready to get out there and bust some more birds!biggrin

The second we espy a crow predating on or about to predate on a crop, ornamental shrub, orchard or Game Warden's garden, we're good to go.  Or if the reprobates are congregated in numbers that constitute a health hazard, that's a varmint event as well.

No "season" here in Western Canada. One can shoot crows whenever he wants...and I like it that waysmile. Breeding season is in full swing now. Run and gun is the only method that works now.

Come on down then!

There is no personal state income tax assessed by the Lone Star State!  The weather is wonderful (if you keep your wits about you during twister season) and the people are criminally pleasant!

The challenge is in that most of the acreage is privately held, so it takes some effort to 'get on' a property.

Helps if you've got a couple of professional schmoozers like Gadget Bob and Texas Matt!!

I'm waiting to see where my son heads to after one more year of college. My mother-in-law is in New Mexico and the rest of her family is in Louisiana. Texas would be a great "middle ground."

I have gone bow hunting for hogs in Brackettville TX and in Mason.  Loved both places!

I apparently drift of too when crows are sighted...according to my fine wife that is. She refers to this behavior as "crow blindness"smile

Gosh, I thought I was the only one who says, "Boom!" when a crow flies by in range, while I'm driving anywhere.

When I'm with my wife or buddies and hear a crow,  I lose all self-control and I start calling them with my voice and ducking down behind something to hide.  It doesn't matter who is talking, I just snap to crow Attention and try to learn something new about those black B&%#$*&^*'s.  My wife mutters something as she walks away disgusted, my buddies say that I act just like my Jack Russell Terrier when she hears a red squirrel.biggrin

They have not released the 2013-2014 dates yet but it is generally the first weekend in Nov here. That is a long way away!! Of course we will open the season early on a animal control permit with the first phone call form one of our pecan farmers! That will happen sometime in Sept!

Here in TN our season starts after June 15, but it really doesn't start heating up for me until after the corn is harvested on the farm in Sept. or Oct. It's pretty much in full swing thru Jan., but closes anyway after Feb. 28. Folks that shoot from camo boats on our lakes can pretty much hunt all season if they can identify flyways, but I like shooting from two or three stationary blinds by the cornfields after the harvest (with the morning sun to my back). Even one good hunt a year is enough to keep me in memories, and primed for next year.

Rancher don't want us shooting on the hunting lease till September, so it's a long wait for me. It's fishing season.
