Opening Day...

Hasn't been a lot going on here on the Forum in a couple of days.

Just thought I'd let everybody know that there are only 12 days and a wake-up until Michigan crow season 2014 #2 (1 AUG - 30 SEP). Sure glad I bought a couple hundred extra generic 12 ga., prior to the current ammo insanity.

Go get em'!

I guess it's because it's the second go of the calendar year. However, your logic is unassailable.

(After all, you downed a bunch last 1/2 season, whichever name it goes by! Especially that one big haul! biggrin)

OA,

Good luck out there. Look forward to your reports. Seems like I typically do not hunt too much in the first couple weeks of Aug due to the heat, however, I generally make it out a couple times the last two weeks of the month.

You bring up an interesting point...which season is #1 and which season is #2. You call the Aug/Sept season #2 probably because it comes after the Feb/Mar months on the calendar. In my journal, I call the Aug/Sept season #1 and the Feb/Mar season #2. I do that because my journal chapters are based on my hunting license. The Aug/Sept season is the first season on my 2013 tag and the Feb/Mar portion will be the second season on my 2013 tag.

Good luck!

BH

When do the crows migrate through MI on their way south? I am thinking since both NH and MI are northern tier states it would be close to the same, 2nd half of October. If that is the case the MI season doesn't allow you guys to see it and get the best shooting. Maine is the same way.

I don't believe we are in a big flyway here in SW MI. Big Honkers has studied this a lot longer and probably has a better grip on the matter. I definitely see more crows passing through in October (the month following the end of our AUG - SEP seasonfurious), but no corresponding "commute" during the spring. Perhaps we're on the edge of a flyway and they take a slightly different route each way.

BH?

Crows here are starting to gather in larger flocks. My son and I were out yesterday evening and bounced half dozen bandits with my favorite 16 gauge. Such fun! Sorry no pics.

Can't wait for season to start...where I'm at the crows have been making a lot of noise for the last few weeks. They're giving me an itch to go grab the shotgun that I can't wait to scratch.

NH,

You are right, MI misses the best part of the fall migration. From my observations the best time to hunt would be Oct 15 thru Nov 15 depending on the weather.

We do catch the best part of the spring migration, however, which usually is in March.

Y'all need to move down here to TN. where the season opens on June 15 and closes on Feb. 28. And from Mar. 1 to June 14 we're either reloading shells or plowing under the corpses.

Well boys from the great lake state its here Christmas eve in August. I am so excited! I don't know if I want to go out Thursday after work or wait till Friday when I have the day off. I have learned so much over the last 3yrs from this site and also my trial and error methods. I have developed my own technique of "crawl and gun" which is what I consider the best of both worlds, a lot of work but I consider it to be worth it if I can have all day action. The decoys and caller are ready to go. I have the camera batteries charging and am looking forward to another fantastic season of trying to fool what I consider to be one of the most amazing birds I have ever hunted. Best of luck this year to Old Artilleryman, Big Honkers and Big Black Birds even though I have not seen much of him around here as of late.

Good luck fellers!

I gotta go to a wedding in PA so I'll be on the sidelines for a bit.
