Record your own calls

I have loaded some new calls onto my Alpha Dogg.  Can't wait to try some out.

My smartphone has a voice recorder app, of course, and while camping I decided to record some pesky crows one morning.  I now took that a step further and made a little amphitheatre-style device out of a 6x4x8" food storage tub.  I cut a slot on the side near the bottom that fits my phone.  I stick the mic end of the phone just barely in the tub and hit record!  Then, save as .mp3 file on my computer, edit it a little bit with Audacity software, and save onto my e-caller.

While sitting on my deck and in the woods bow hunting, I captured some great vocals.  I think some said, "Hey, there's a deer moving over here," "Yo, look out for the fox in the woods," and "There are plenty of beans over here in this field."

I'll let you know how my new "real" calls work.

Jerry

It's funny you posted this. I talked to a friend last week about using some of his recording equipment. He is a pro sound tech. He is going to let me borrow a recorder that uses a SIM card and a directional shotgun mic. I have a few places lined up to try this. I have several crow from last season in a freezer out back. I am going to place them in the open around some short trees and hide. I am hoping to gather sounds of them gathering up and mobbing the dead. The short trees should bring the crows in close.

Keep this in mind when "recording your own crow calls"....don't be recording the crows as they flee the field upon your presence as the calls given will mean:" get the hell out of here and stay away-DANGER!"

But morning gathering or 6 of them chasing a Cooper's Hawk through the woods could be good!
