TCP Record Authentication -- 111 Crows Bagged
Permalink

Hi guys,

After our new TCP 2 man record was initially established last week, our very own Crowbusters drag racing and "run and gun" crow shooting champion Skip demanded we back it up within a week, for it to count.  Texas Matt and I were forced to abandon our families yesterday to attempt to drop another 100+ crows.

Our intel unit reported the location we selected has experienced very heavy hunting pressure over the past few weeks, but we had the powerful FoxPro Snow Crow Pro, our trusty Hot Stick and our efficient Metro Maxus's fueled by Federal Metro-Field shotshells.  We had a lot of crows flaring at long range throughout the morning, but enough made the mistake of overflying our position to make a successful hunt.  We thing we did use was a lot of "non-standard" sounds - other than the Johnny Stewart classics - to keep our quarry engaged.

During this hunt we received an Emergency Action Message from another of our farming friends so Lone Star Phil and I will be back on the job tomorrow at zero dark thirty, if the rain cooperates.

Regards,

Very well managed operation TCP. You gentlemen are killing me as all of my crows have long departed south. I would really love to see what your company could do with regular trap loads and shotguns sporting barrels of normal proportions!

Thanks Ted,
We did use full power loads through normal barrels for many years. With that configuration, our best TBC's were in the mid-50's. As soon as we switched to the quiet guns, the body count skyrocketed. Initially, Lone Star Phil and I were very skeptical of Gadget Bob's bizarre barrel extension, and shunned it for quite some time... but when he put down 60+ crows by himself one day, we knew he was on to something big. Not long after we all 'went quiet', we put down 222 crows at a single stand. That would have never happened with loud guns.

I agree that they are not the ideal tool for all crow shooting scenarios, but in the close confines of a pecan orchard, they are VERY effective.

Darn it...  Heavy rain all yesterday and last night, with drizzle continuing until 10:00AM this morning seemed to dramatically reduce the crow volumes in the tules we hunted today.  Lone Star and I totaled 36 today but had lots of fun, as usual!  Phil made friends with a handsome chestnut colored horse, that initially feared the Snow Crow Pro.  Phil also found and returned a lost key ring for our farmer host and that was a big plus in our relationship with him!

Gadget Bob,

Just got done with my first flyway shoot (afternoon shoot) of the season. I fired 675 trap loads in # 8 shot and killed 473 crows. Made 4 quadruples and many delayed four bird kills as they came in about one second apart from one another. Made many triples and also three with four shots. I would kill the first two then blow the third shot on the third bird but get him with the fourth shot.

I had not picked up a shotgun in 9 months so I was a little rusty on the first 50 to 75 crows where I needed two shots per bird because I was not in the groove yet. Once I got my rythum back they paid dearly.

The shoot was a 4 1/2 hour shoot.

Hi Bob,

Great shooing fun...  I have excuted a triple once on doves with my old 1897 pump as a kid and dream of a quad on crows.

I agree when you get some good crow volume shooting, one can really hone their targeting so that they are centered up consistently.

I am working the grand opening of the Waco, TX Cabela's Outpost this weekend representing Mossy Oak and Remington, so no crow hunting for me until next weekend.

Take care,

Gadget Bob,

That is a nice photo with the crossed Metro Barrels in the orchard.

Gadget Bob,

I need to shoot 1,613 more crows to hit another mile stone of 150,000 crows in 40 seasons!

It took me 16 years to shoot the first 50,000 and 12 years to shoot the next 50,000. The third 50,000 will also occur within a 12 year period.
