I saw something I’ve never seen before. I was driving across town on a fairly busy 4 lane road and I saw a crow sitting on power line that crossed the same road. It is unusual for crows around here to sit on utility wires.. As I approached from ~300 yards the crow spread his wings and felll over backwards with his talons still clinging to the wire as though he had been shot. I thought what in the heck? I drove right under him and he was just hanging on the wire looking at two of his buddies feeding in a grass lot at a business.. It took me about a ¼ mile to get turned around in hopes of getting a picture or better yet a video. As I was able to see him in my rear view mirror he released himself and flew out and then came back and landed in the same spot. I got turned around and began to get close to him and he did the same thing again.. There was no place to safely pull over and take video or a picture so I end up driving under him again. He was just hanging with his wings partially open and looking around. I pulled into the closest parking lot to get a picture and as I turned my vehicle he released himself from the wire and flew down and began to feed with his buddies in the grass… By far the darnest thing I’ve seen a crow do.. Have any of you ever witnessed anything like this?
Nope. Crow must have been munching on some wacky weed seeds.
A while back, someone published (sorry, I forgot who--maybe Bob A.) a photo of three crows hanging upside down by their feet. These guys' internal resistance must have been less than the voltage/amperage/current (I forgot high school physics, sorry) flowing through the wire and it passed through all three of them for an instant, causing their little brains to fry and their toes to clasp the wire. Great photo, however.
