I am new to this site and wondered if anyone on here could help me, I have an alpha dogg but not sure on how to put more sounds onto it, any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Hunt Car - Yes, I have a lot of experience with this. I also have the Alpha Dogg. They need to be .mp3 files, and they need to be properly named or they will show up as "no name" on your remote. If you download additional Primos sounds from their online store, they are already named, but if you buy or find other sounds I can help you with it.
Basically, the USB cord that comes with the caller will attach to your computer and can be accessed like any other "drive," such as a USB memory stick or external memory drive. Once you copy .mp3 audio files onto the caller, the remote will need to go through a lengthy (5 -10 minute) synchronization process with the caller. This only occurs the first time you turn on the unit, but after that, unless you make more changes/additions, the remote will find the caller right away.
That's just the quick answer. I can help you further with specifics of the file naming and adding sounds later by e-mail or private message.
Welcome! A lot of guys here are FoxPro users, but I do like my Alpha Dogg.
I found some mp3 files, if I click download will they download onto my computer, or will it automatically put them on my call? it will let me click on the name of the sound and drag it also, if I drag this over into the alpha dogg folder will it work?
Not really. It is unlikely that the naming convention will be correct. You would be better off copying/dragging to a folder on your computer, fixing the name, and then copying/dragging and dropping over to your Alpha Dogg.
I'll try to explain it here. Open the folder with the .mp3 file(s). "Right click" on the file to drop down a menu. Click on "Properties" to open another window. Click on the tab at the top called "Summary," and then on the button that says "Advanced >>." Now you are finally to the place you need to be -- I know, it's a lot!
Keep in mind, what you are looking at here is the information about an .mp3 as if it is digital music. There you'll see a place for the Artist, Album Title, Year, Track Number, Genre, Title, etc. That's how your regular I-pod or .mp3 player can display the information.
Next, go to the line where it says "Album Title" and the other one that says "Title." In both places, type the name of the file the way you want to see it on your remote. I like to make them descriptive, like "Nice Crow, Crow Aggressive, Crow Alone, Two Crows 1," etc.
I have a bunch of sounds, some found on the internet, some that I have recorded with my smartphone voice recorder while deer hunting, etc. Many I have had to convert to the .mp3 format from .wav files or some other format, and many I have edited using Audacity software to repeat some caws, break up the cadence, or eliminate noise and add periods of silence.
Once you have fixed the naming, you can then copy/drag to the Alpha Dogg. You can also copy files FROM the caller to your computer or a memory card or stick. This is partly how I learned all of this -- I looked at the background information on the Primos sounds to find out how the names showed up on the remote. If you notice, the Primos file names are just things like "CW00006," but that's not what you see on the remote.
I hope that this isn't too confusing. Good luck, and let me know if you have questions.
