Hi just though I would say hello,I am in England and spend most of my time shooting, however I have significant crow numbers around where I shoot, and need to control them so I did a search and found your forum, and I am hoping to pick up some hints and tips on the subject,to help me acheive better results, anyway hello to you all,
Yes I have Jerry thanks some good potential around me,most people seem not to be bothered around the crow shooting and they seem to concentrate on game or the wildfowl,or pigeon shooting, but the farmers have real issues with them,I get most of my shooting free,so I see it has a obligation, up to now I have done Ok over recent years but its time to do it right,I am facinated with the calling side of things and need to identify some good hand calls to consider,I am hoping to sort that through the info that's on here or if anyone wants to make suggestions that would be great,
Welcome from Illinois! Crows are smart enough that I think every one of us is still learning. I'm not sure how different the calls will be between England and the US, but I'm pretty sure there are a few guys on there that can answer that question. Anyway, good hunting and make sure to post pictures and stories about your hunting trips.
DJ, Welcome aboard.. There is a lot of info available on this site and the members here are very helpful.. One thing, if you already havn't watched it, is watch George Digweed ( from UK) shooting crows.... You can see how he does it. i.e set, decoys, shot size etc..Best of luck to you and your efforts...
DJ - I have a bunch of calls, but one of my favorites is the Faulks C-50. I think it's a must have in your arsenal. That call makes you sound pretty good. Just my opinion.
Yes Mark, George can shoot them, but he does do things differently, notice he use's no 5 shot and you never see him cover his face more than wear a hat ,?? is this because of his confidence shooting at range??,The whole aspect of shooting crows seems topical, and I am convinced, its like any other part of shooting to a degree, we all have our own way's, it would be good however to make a note of there decoying trait's,Through out different months of the year,I notice over here now the birds seem to be pairing a little, the calls seem to have changed, and when I noticed that last yr,I shot more over single decoy's or double ones with a good distance between them, but I am laid up with the flu so cant even get to set the mole traps, let alone sit in the wind,
