Anyone ever try baiting for crows using corn?

Ive got a spot behind my house that always has a few crows because of the cows, they usually sit in the trees and peck the ground. Its only 5-10 birds that I see but there's more nearby.  Im hoping the corn will draw more this way. I haven't hunted them yet either.

I spread about 50 pounds of corn around in the field where they hang out. Gonna wait a few days and put more corn if they start showing up, then hopefully sneak in there and have a good shoot.

Is baiting crows legal in the state you are hunting in?

Make sure it's legal first. Peanuts are the best but $$$$$.. Try and put out some cheap white bread for a visual and use sunflower seeds. ( "black crack") crows love sunflowers and they don't get full too quickly.

You don't need to bait them if you find where they like to feed!

IMO baiting is way over rated, I am pretty new to this game but I've learned a few things through mistakes mostly lol...and some great advice from Skip....thx Skip.... I agree with bob...find the crows, hide well, have fun..don't over think it... baiting might get you some stragglers but as soon as they catch on its over...

Thanks for the replies everybody, I should have mentioned it is legal here in the OP. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. There's actually 3-4 crows in the field right now.

And Bob, I'm having a hard time finding them. I have a few huge corn fields that I can hunt but the farmers haven't picked the corn yet for some reason. Hopefully they'll get it cut before the season ends.

Try the "black crack" and report back to the group..Around here, only deer eat corn... It may take a few days for the crows to figure out sunflower seed is food; if they aren't trained to know it is food.. Luck...

Bob: looks like your buddy was crawling back into the blind ( last photo) when you captured that image.. How do you construct your blind for entrance and exit?

Hi Mark,

Dick was just laying some stuff down to get in the door of the blind, perhaps it was the ammo and the thermos with the coffee in it. He still had his bucket and shotgun outside the blind when I snapped that photo. You can walk in upright. I'll search for a photo, it might take a while.

So how is your season going Mark?

Slick,

If it's been a wet year in your neck of the woods then perhaps the farmers haven't been able to get a combine in there to pick the corn yet.

Mark,

Here is a photo.

Now you can see that you can just walk into the blind.

It's been the worst year ever for me. From scouting we had limited food so very limited birds.. I went on 3 shoots and just did Ok but all my spots / contacts no birds..  My shooting partner also  took a full time job and he hasn't been available to go and scout either.. I'm going this WE ( long drive away) and hopefully will do better. I have one last place that has a lot of birds now but can't get in to shoot until end of Feb.. congrats on your milestone. Maybe one day I'll travel out to where the big volume of birds are....

Mark,

What state are you from?

You are correct, the birds move with the feed, that sometimes changes from week to week, even day to day!

Hope your trip pans out for you.
