Crow can be used as fox bait, not just as bait to bring in crows
So, an interesting evening. Was going to sit till 02-30:00 in the morning, but decided enough was enough (back ache) at 23:30 Set up ready at 21:15 and at 21:35 spotted two foxes coming down a tractor rut in the field, one 100 metres behind the other, the second being cagey, the first one almost running.
First one went straight past the bait without even stopping to sniff (big dog fox) and then the second followed at 21:40 3-4 minutes after the first) and did exactly the same, both going behind a barn along the field.
I thought damn, should have potted one, but kept ready hoping one would come back, and sure enough, after about 5 minutes the second came back, and did a good 3 circles of the bait, before gingerly going up to it.
As it grabbed one of the crows, I potted it, and dropped it with the bird still in the mouth, clenched tight. Picked it up and it was the vixen. Had to prise her jaws open to get the crow back out LOL.
Strange thing is, she took a crow as first choice, while she had the choice of two crows and a rabbit.
Stayed till 23:30 hoping the dog would come looking for her, but then gave up.
Left the bait and trail cam (will look see if the shot is on the trail cam in the morning) and will check tomorrow see if he's been back
Just checked trail cam, no pictures. Everything working but NOT writing to SD card tried everything and no luck. Thought NUTS, can't afford a new one for two months LOL. Then went though the menu and found that the Time Function had been switched on (probably due to changing the batteries) which although it then works, will only write to the card at set times (one hour a day max). Switched it off and everything working again LOL
Happy days, but now no idea when the second fox is coming, so another long late night to sit out, will be 02-03:00 probably before I get to bed, maybe even later

Really neat Redditch! A bandit with a bandit. I used to shoot crows anong a ditch near my home when I was a kid. This was in the summer mostly as the crows would gather there at that time of the season. A pair of red foxes would come a dusk like clockwork to clean up the dead. I left them alone and they were almost fearless of me! Thanks for sharing!
