Thought this only applied to Deer hunters here in Alabama, not Crow hunters but I was wrong. Set up this A.M. on a orchard things started slow and crows were call shy, suspected a local had been after them to much. After we had killed maybe 15 started hearing shots in the distance where other smaller groves were and they kept getting closer. Knowing the land and orchards I knew the route they were taking and thought they would stay north of us. Wrong, these hunters zeroed in on us and wound up on the edge of the orchard we are in and started a fighting calls. No way they didn't know we were there, we use the Snow Pro with 4 speakers and had killed 31 already. I got out of the blind and went to them and they saw me coming and left, they had set up about 175 yds from us. This was a first for me crow hunting and I hope the last, they killed our hunt and if they would have stayed north both of us probably would have had decent shoots. Well you live and learn, will have to change strategy's on this area in the future. I am sure these "hunters" are new to the sport and hope they learned something also but only time will tell. Did not mean to gripe but had tell it in hopes that any new hunters that read this forum will give a wide birth to hunters already set up and hunting.
So both parties had permission to be in the same grove? Any way. Not good for either group.. sad part, most likely.. a bunch of birds were educated.. and the other group will most likely do it again..
Sorry didn't make it clear they didn't have permission, they got on the edge on property line and set up. The way they left when they saw me said a lot to my way of thinking, they knew that they had crossed the line on hunting courtesy. But the good thing the landowner was not pleased this happened to us and I'm sure He knows the people and will take care of it. Hopefully they will get tired of killin only a few and give it up. We can only wait and see.
There is a lot of truth in that statement but I try to like everyone regardless. Some folks make it a lot harder than others I have to admit! The good thing on this situation is I now know some things to look for and have come up with some ideas to avoid the same thing again. So it's time to hunt smarter.
Here when it was good enough to go, we always had hunters barge right into our area and the had the nerve to ask us stupid questions;'Wow man-are you shooting crows man? I didn't know you could do that!" meanwhile in the distance crows routinely flared about 300 yards out...this happened no matter what town i went to...same old routine different faces!
