As the title says, the crows up here are starting to group together. I drove a short distance this even to scout and try to predict the annual pattern. Later set up at the edge of a small wood lot, caller placed as according to wind direction with a nice 20 yard opening as a killing zone. Only shot 7 crows which is no big feat...but managed this with 6 rounds of 12 gauge ammo! Scotch doubled on a pair as I was taking a bead on one realizing another bandit to the rear was overtaking my chosen target. Held off a second and bounced them both with one charge of 8 shot! This I believe to be only the third time I've scotched on crows!
Good to see you after them, still to hot here in fact I'm headed to the beach tomorrow. But it's just around the corner here, we started mid September last year and I'm ready to pull the trigger. Congrats on the Scotch double and the hunt!
Sttill hot and muggy here too guys. Bush if full of mosquitoes as well. I put in a lot of miles within half hour of my home to predict the annual crow patterns. Big roost in the middle of the city. Crows come from far and wide to this location. Try and target feeding locations, rally points and flyways in and out. Later, in Septembe, I venture farther out on crops and such. Get calls from sunflower producers when "they start gathering" !

We now have a competitive dove field close to our field. The guys planted sunflowers.. My question is, do crows go after the sunflower seeds like they do peanuts and pecans?
Bob, thank you for your reply.. that could be good because crows roost about 1.5 miles from the sunflowers and we have a small pecan orchard about 500 yrds from there..and we shoot it.. Two possibilities...Crows will do a lot of damage.. better for our dove field or they could let me shoot the crows out of the field..
Up here on the Eastern Prairies of Canada, mature sunflower crops are highly sought after by crows during the fall. Sunflower is harvested late up here, usually combined in mid October or later. Huge concentrations of crows can cause a fair bit of damage if not "hazed" off these crops. Very interesting to watch a large group feed as they move into the wind like a wave across the crop, each bird choosing a sunflower head to perch on while picking it clean of seeds... then on to the next. I will report some hunt stories supported by photos later in the season!

Look forward to your hunts, hope you set some personal best totals. By the way be careful, from the post about your son last season you could get outshot this year!
I guess it's still to early here. I still see them all the time but they are all 3-4 birds at a time with a lot of single and doubles. Season open September 1st here. Gonna take my little brother and a buddy that more information before we head to opener dove shoot. Gonna be a GREAT day. My two favorite hunts all in the same day. Just hope they are grouped up by then. Do they tend to use the same places as rally posts every year? I was hunting one of those later year and liked it. Hope in its still gonna be a good place since I haven't found a roost or flyway yet.
