Either feast or almost famine, scouted a new spot yesterday and was excited to see a couple hundred birds working the area while I was there. Set up this am and they left, scratched out 22 hard earned birds. I'm determine to figure out how to stay on good shooting this time of year. Friday was a bit cooler and breezy and animals were moving, got warmer, humidity came up and no wind with not a lot of activity this am. Will see if we can put the puzzle together.

O.A.

I was whining to, thought we had them cornered but Mr. Crow let me know he will go where he wants. Seriously a lot of food sources are being harvested and there moving, so to get on them I've got to get smarter or just enjoy what we are able to do. Believe the latter will be the smart move huntin these bad boy's in Sept.

Agreed. A good hunt begins with one bandit down. After that, it's all gravy. Have to think that way around here. smile

My hunt this morning was alost a complete bust also. You still did much better then me though. I was able to take 3 for the day. It got warm fairly quick this morning and 0 wind. I was actually suprised when I checked the wind (powder wind checker) . I have only seen it this calm a handful of times in my life. I had about 50 birds come by my stand but they were all out of range and had zero interest in what I was trying to do. They didn't flare or anything. I could see them coming and they would never change course. Just kept on like none of my decoys where there and no calls where on. It was strange. But just 2 weeks ago I couldn't load my gun fast enough for about 2 hours. It's crazy. Does this kind of stuff happen often this early in the season?

jacobhwrd,

Not an expert by no means but Sept. here has bit us a few times with birds doing things like happened to you and other stuff to. As I stated I'm trying to to get a handle on what will work for us this time of year but O.A. said it best "A good hunt begins with one bandit down" so enjoy the challenge if it was easy I don't think any of us would be chasing these Crows with P.H.D.'s in survival.

I was thinking about it today and one thing I didn't account for is that the area around our farm has zero pressure ever. That was the first time I actually hit it for crow. But the wma I was at Saturday is a really large dove field and was shot really hard for about a week or two. Maybe that's why they wanted nothing to do with it. That field was always productive last year but it was so late in the season that the field had been cut and reseeded in winter wheat I believe. Hopefully it turns back to being a good place. I am now chomping at the bit to go back to our farm. It's been a few weeks now. Just tying to find someone to go with me. To many birds got away because I couldn't fire shots quick enough.
