SJ 4000 action camera

Wow, finally. After taking ONE single day to get from Malaysia to the UK, my new SJ4000 action camera, promptly disappeared into the UK postal system (despite being tracked air mail ). No sign of it.

It arrived here on the 5th September, and then NOTHING.

Finally today, it has arrived, on the 22nd September !!

Cost me £22.95 POSTED (a lot cheaper than the GoPro I have, and only costs $5.00 USD according to customs declaration)

Yes, the battery housing is a bit "fiddly" to close, but all in all it looks good, and lots of fittings supplied (it uses standard GoPro mounts, so those are easy

Two back doors, but BOTH seem to be of the closed variety.

Two USB chargers, one euro plug, and one UK plug.

Tiny instruction book, almost impossible to read, in the box, so it's a case of trial and error really, or buy a magnifying glass

Now on charge (using my phone charger, as that's easier, it's micro USB too)

And a micro SD card getting formatted now (not supplied)

Is it worth it's money ?

Yes, I would say so looking at the build quality compared to a GoPro.

What's the video footage like ?

That I will have to check later, but looking on you tube, it's comparable to a GoPro 3+ and better than the standard GoPro White

I have wanted to start video in my own hunts. Let me know how good the quality is after you try it.

Awaiting expert field reports on video quality, ease of operation, and durability.

Funny enough, I just watch them to see any misses I had, and find out WHY I missed.

I don't publish the films generally

Most missed birds (not all) are from either stopping your swing and shooting behind the bird or raising your head resulting in shooting over the top of the bird.

There are other factors such as being out of position (shooting from a cramped position and not facing the shot with your feet) also an improper gun mount. Then there is coasting to a stop with the muzzle of your shotgun. This also results in shooting behind the bird.

Ohhh, I rarely (very rarely) miss corvids, but sometimes I miss duck or pigeon, and then I like to know if I was in front or behind

So what is your final verdict on the camera video quality? I am thinking about doing the same thing.

The camera video quality is very good, 1080dpi and an option of 0x, 2x, and 4x zoom
For the price it can't be beaten, and I've ordered a second one now, but from a different supplier (first supplier sent a defective housing, and is being difficult about sending the correct housing).
Also, the second supplier is far cheaper too, only £16.50 posted :)
Get a couple, saves having to change batteries, quicker just to change cameras LOL

Very good news. Do you mind telling me who you bought the first one from so I can make sure I don't have the same issues. I just ordered a new carlsons choke tube I am hoping to try this coming weekend and would love to be able to film the same day.

The first one I bought off Soyan Store on eBay (Malaysian store, sells worldwide on eBay)

still waiting to see what they do to resolve the problem.

Asked them for a new housing, and they told me to use the camera as is LOL

the button power and menu switch on the housing is at the bottom, whereas the camera button is at the top :(

if I don't get a new housing, I will try ebay for a refund

So, repaired the defective SJ 4000 action camera.
They supplied me with a housing on/off/menu switch at the bottom of the housing front, when it should have been at the top of the housing front.

So, got a bone knife, disassembled the switch, and sawed the switch off, then drilled a hole in the correct place, reassembled the switch, and glued it into place over the new hole.
Then used some glue to seal the old hole, so that's now waterproof.
It scratched the housing. No problem, I will paint it.
Here's two photos, before and after
Main thing is, it works LOL

just painted the housing with PlastiKote paint. Supposed to be touch dry in 10-15 minutes, and totally dry in 35. Minutes.

After 100 minutes, still wet to the touch LOL

So, here's the finished job. Not as nice as "new" but a lot better than it was, and more importantly, it now works perfectly too :)

yes, I could have used glue to smooth over the scratches, and then sanded it down, but it's for use in a field, and will no doubt get plenty more scratches before its life is over lol  :)
