Well, it’s not the season for…crows anyway. This is Fall Season turkey #2, a hen, taken this a.m. at 0854 on a nice sunny morning (photo 1, sunrise--0745). Mr. Crow was up at the usual time to begin his day of mischief but the turkeys rise later, so it was coffee time and make “little clucking noises” time until about 0845 when three appeared on the right side, hugging the wood line (photos 2, 3). Like last time, the three came right up to the decoys and I had to wait until the largest one (the adult hen) cleared the group and my decoy, then I dropped her (almost) at the star position (photo 4). The bird in the yellow circle was bugging out. She flopped to the left (arrow) and eventually about another 5 yards into the blueberry bushes (photo 5). This one will go to the landowner who said he would like to try smoking one. I told him it probably wouldn’t work, as they are very soggy after they’re cleaned and would be difficult to light (“Rim Shot,” Thank you ). Seriously folks, this is turkey #6 for me from this field--I owe the landowner, big time. On the way home, I scouted out another of his fields where I shot six bandits a couple of Saturdays ago (thread: “Another Day: Another Blueberry Field”). This time, jackpot! Saw a flock of about 20 turkeys just past the tree line where the crows were “hiding” that day. So, that’s my next stop on the next sunny day. BTW, as I drove by this a.m. beneath that particular tree line, the crows went absolutely nuts. Suppose they recognized the little red Ranger truck?
Oh yes and for the record, on the way in to the hunt, I got a good snort of skunk, which thankfully then, was in the other lane (photo 6). I was certain that there would be a bandit or two working this particular piece of road kill, so I had my camera ready on the way home. No luck; plenty of fragrance and it was still too "fresh" for the crows.
Good hunting!

Thank you but you're too kind: They're wary like crows, however, not too bright--but tasty!
I don't think I mentioned that my freezer failed about five months ago and ruined all of my venison, 1.5 turkeys, and a bunch of other spensive' stuff. So, I'm restocking.

Good work OA. You got a good little spot for them turks.
And...
God bless crowbusters. Only here are pictures of roadkill posted and approved by other members. Love it.

That one yesterday had a really nice pelt on it. Reminded me of the one Curly Joe wore in Back to the Woods (1937). Always wanted one like that. I wonder if it's still there...
