Auxiliary Speakers

As our first part of the season here in MI begins in two weeks, I've been thinking for some time about putting two auxiliary speakers on the ol' Spitfire. It has been a fine little machine for three years or so. But I would like more volume, with which to reach out and attract bandits from beyond the Spitfire's current 200-300 yard range. Being fundamentally a tinkerer and very frugal (cheap) at heart, I am about to try to go the route of connecting an inexpensive amplifier I purchased:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271902384006?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

to the Spitfire's "EXT SPKR" outlet. Powering the amp with a 12V gel battery, and attaching two (again) cheap 30W speakers as part of this experiment. These are the ones I am considering:

Have any of you out there tried anything like this? And are these "5" X 8" (cheap) PA speakers any good for this application? I have always been impressed with FoxPro's products and service, but I don't have the bucks at the moment for a "Super Snow-Crow II" or "Krakatoa II." But, I want to imitate my Idol, Big Honkers, and bring then in from miles away. I recall having the honor last year, of going out with Big Honkers a couple of times late during last year's (FEB-MAR) Michigan season, and was very impressed with the volume of his pair of nuclear-powered (it seemed) speakers, that filled the surrounding two or three sections with huge crow sounds, that drew them in from way off.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I need to get out and make some "crow snow" in the worst way!

Can't weigh in relative to the specifics of the technology, but it looks like you may be on to something! Mount the amp & battery in a weather-resistant box with 3 legs/stakes and the speakers screwed to the top...spray with camo paint and go! You could even have a hook underneath to hang the Foxpro from. Keep us posted!

The only thing is we kept a piece of camouflage material over our speaker as it were but I see that it isn't necessary for most of you on here...

Looks good. How many do you usually use at one setup?

OA,

You have to look close to see one of the speakers in this photo. Look over Dick's left (his left) shoulder and you can barely spot the speaker in the tree.

So, it appears from the photo that you are setting up with the speakers about 10-20 yards to your rear.

OA,

It will vary with different setups but 15 yards is about right in most cases.

I've usually had my Spitfire set out front. BH had his big honkin' speakers to the rear like you. So, it seems I'll have to try that when I power up with the new pair--actually three--counting the Spitfire.

Thanks!
