Crow Busters Forum

My buddy and I went out this morning...with great expectations, to a field in Walterboro, SC where we hunted last year.  The field is a high-end dove field that is perfect.  It is situated near a county landfill and a horse facility so there is a never ending supply of the black bandits.  The owner reported to us that there were plenty of birds, but he could not go with us this time as some things came up at the last minute.

Setting up the blind yesterday evening, we were a little bit surprised that there were not more crows, but we just figured they had already gone to roost.  Everything else was perfect for a good day of hunting.

Things got off to a quick start with a group of three birds that came in early as I was picking up my gun to load it.  Only one was killed as I never got a shell into the gun.  After that, not much happened at all... to the point that we knew something was up.  Very few crows around and those that ventured in were extremely wary.  What was up???  Call shy?  Someone else hunting here? Relocated to a better food source?  Then it dawned on us.

Last Wednesday Donald Trump came to Walterboro and held a rally directly across the street at the owner's place of business (the owner is a big Republican who hosted the event)!  The place had been crawling with everyone from security men to sound, food, portolet and tent people!  It was a big success for Donald Trump but for crow hunting, not so much!  The owner's field report was called in to us prior to the rally and we failed to scout the field first-hand .  A Big mistake. 

Well, yet another lesson learned the hard way.  We only picked up 16 crows and 3 pigeons before leaving.  The one thing that could have been worse would have been if we showed up with guns, ammo and camo on the day of the rally!  Yes, we got Trumped, but we were left with a good education and an even better story.
