In my impatience while waiting for the new season, I found this video of some crow and pigeon shooting.  Thought y'all might like to see it:

This guy can shoot!  However, in spite of what his hat says, I don't think he got that pump gun from Holland & Holland. smile

You can see towards the end of the film, he shoots a few of what we call "wood pigeon"
These are a heavier bird than the feral pigeon, and are not carrion eaters (I.e. Crap eaters) like the feral pigeon, and their meat is excellent eating. Usually we just take the two breast chunks, but it is possible to eat the whole bird if you stuff it, or casserole it. Otherwise just take the breasts and pan fry them, 30 seconds a side on high heat, or 3 minutes a side on medium heat, done in butter with some bacon, onion, garlic, makes an excllent meal served with fried or roast potatoes, and some veg. :)

That's a great video and he got some great footage with that shot cam. One thing that I have noticed in watching several crow videos from our friends across the pond is that no one uses any e-callers and they decoy very well. I may be guilty of over calling on many hunts I would say and something worth looking at.

Redditch, Agreed. Your Wood Pigeons are good eating!! I've shot, eaten and enjoyed them! To me, our Rock Pigeons are as appetizing as Crows... No thank you. Demi

the reason we don't use e-callers is simple, it's forbidden by law, and would cost you your FAC.

also corvids are very smart when it comes to bird species, many they have been reckoned to have the brain power of at least a seven year old human. They are also the only species of bird to actually use a variety of too,s to complete tasks or get food.

Being so smart, they soon learn to recognise distinctive e-callers, and the repetitive calling

mouth callers allow you to respond and "talk" to the corvids, so that they still come in despite having been shot at.

We also tend to use far bigger decoy displays than you shooters over the pond. You favourite Decoying seems to be an owl, and 1-6 corvid decoys, min a mobbing scene, whereas our common decoy setup is a feeding setup, with 6-40 corvid decoys out

if shooting pigeon and corvids, I will often have them either mixed, or one set left, the other right, and upto 40 of each decoy out, anything up to 6 floater/bouncer poles, 1-6 flappers, and 1-3 whirlies/magnets going, plus a set of two sentry decoys on lofting piles in the hedge line
