Most important with ANY make of flapper, including the FF5, break the wings of any dead bird you mount, if you don't, although it will work to start, as rigorous mortis sets in, there will be increasing resistance as the time goes on and will then burn out the motor when it gets too much.
Breaking the wings at the front most (next to the shoulder) bone, and you won't have any problems :)
If if you want a flapper, get one from Nick Tait, www.flightlinedecoys.co.uk
these are THE flapper to get, and he's got many models, constantly developing new ones(if you want an analogy, it's the Rolls Royce of flappers)
he he constantly develops his models, and is always coming up with new models, based on feed back from users in the field.
His is current top model is the FF5 which has many variations and options you can buy..
they are are totally variable in speed 0 to 400 flaps a minute, and totally variable in time, from continuously on, to upto 3 minutes between flaps, and also duration of flap.
You can let the flapper work on its own, or you can attach the (optional) blue tooth unit, which allows you to switch on and off remotely.
there are two new models out too, one a powered bouncer, that lifts up and down, with the wings flapping as it does so, immigrating a landing bird, and the other the "American Crow" version (still being fine tuned before production starts on this), which is a flapper, with a caller integrated
check out YouTube for some good videos on them, or his website
they are not cheap, but there again, they will last for years, and his customer service is second to none
I will add some videos below

The FF5 looks great and I would like to try one out, but looking at the website it seems that they are not available for export to the US.
Do you know of any way to get on to the states? Thanks.
Demi
Yes, you can order from the manufacturer. I'm not the manufacturer, just a very contented user :)
he will export to the USA, and most other parts of the world and the postage is very cheap compared to what it costs to bring stuff here from the USA.
he has many variations, and if you're not sure which one is (ones ones are) best suited to your needs, either ring him, or message him via his FB page, or email him, and he will assist you in your final choice (or choices)
Nick Tait is a fantastic guy, a real gentleman, and he won't sell you stuff you don't need just to make an extra few dollars from you.
and all his kit is designed by him, and manufactured by him, and field tested by another real gent (farmer and avid crow/pigeon shooter) Andy Crow who you can also find on you tube and writes sometimes in UK shooting magazines, but also does a lot of videos on different aspects of British pest control (and game shooting) under the banner "Crow how" LOL

I take it you have a different make and NOT an FF5 from Nick Tait at Flightline Decoys then ?
As he doesn't have plastics in his.
Also his motors have brass bearings, and are stronger and faster than the competition
also, did you remember to break the wings on birds you mounted on the flapper ? If you don't, rigour mortis gradually sets in, and that can burn motors on any flapper out. Break the wings and problem solved
