Here are some crow hunts that are older than some of the members at Crow Busters.

Hello JTN,

If a fella likes shotgun shooting on live birds you can't beat crows or pigeons!

These photos are a reminder of just how fast the years go bye.

If you are healthy then don't put things off and wait until you retire to enjoy life.

Great memories of "the ole days" in these photos.

Camo, Boyd is in the black & white photo to the far right with the three of us sitting at the table. He was my partner for the first 21 years out here before his health went south. He had to quit hunting at the age of 67 and he passed away at the age of 73. He was my crow hunting mentor during the early years. I owe him a lot because he took me out of the dark ages in regard to getting outstanding shooting.

Boyd and I also hunted ducks and geese together besides crows. Boyd was a gunsmith in Wichita Kansas during his working years. I will see if I can find a few more photos of him that will post on this site.

Camo these are the only two photos I have of Boyd shooting crows. These were taken between 1980 to 1982 and I was taking the photos. The first photo illustrates a flyway shoot where they are strung out clear to the horizon.

Those were definently the GOOD OLE DAYS ! I love that flyway pic. Sorry for you to have lost him. My friend always tells me that no one gets out of this one alive. So like you said, let's make the best of it while we can. Those look like some great times. I would have loved to been with. Paul.

boba, I am interested about when you met Boyd. Did he use hand calls? If so, did he primarily use the distress call? Reading old Popowski articles and others from
'back-in-the-day' , it seems like that's the call they were sounding nearly constantly while hunting. I have used it some but with only marginal success....

MS, Boyd was very good with a hand call, he used the Mallard Tone crow calls exclusively.

Boyd used both a distress call and a fighting call. The old timers called the fighting call "the rally call" but it is the same.

Good crow calling takes time it's something you don't learn to do well in a short period of time.

Boyd had to be one of the coolest men in the whole world! A crow shooter extraordinaire!

Now are you done for the season? What were your totals again? Here some spring and winter seasons are on or about to be..I haven't seen much on the forums though about this frozen winter hunting though...one day it's practically warm the next it is 20 degrees out...not sure how that is   working for the returning crows though...
