I knew the birds were not in good numbers yet, but I still had to give it a try.

Shot in a pecan orchard in Dallas County. Same one we killed 161 in last year. I picked up 46.

I was on a dang good roll for a while. I killed 40 of the first 43 birds I shot at. Some I did shoot at more than once. Then things went south. I only killed 6 out of the last 15+ I shot at. Same shots just started missing.

The orchard has cotton planted to the north and east. I had a trio come in late right on top of the cotton. I didn't see them until they were in my face. I should have had a tennis racket. Only got 1 of 3 on those. LOL

Barry,

Way to go man! 40 out of 43 "Dadgumit " that's strong. Good to see you in the game.

That is a damn good average but doable when they are soft at the start of the season.

There were lots of soft singles in that first 40 no doubt. I think I killed 3 doubles and 1 triple. The rest were singles. No high flyers. I am a sucker for those high ones! LOL

Hope we get some good weather soon. We need the numbers to pick up big time.

40 of 43, then 6 out of 15... The mental game comes into play.

If this were sporting clays, we would say on the last ones you were "focused on the outcome rather than the process." In other words, thinking "I'm on a good run and if I can get the next 10, I'll have 50 straight..." After that, you start trying harder rather than just shooting. We always shoot best when we are not thinking about it.

Or as Troy Landry said on Swamp People "Choot 'Um Elizabeth, JUS CHOOT 'UM!!!"

Been there and done that many times.

That may have been some of it, but I think it was more that the action was slowing down and I was getting caught off guard. Just wasn't getting squared around correctly and making bad shots.
