Crow, Fish takes one for the team!

Went out this morning and had a fighting setup. 2 Crow, Fish fighting over a crumpled up red bandana with 6 others looking on. Things were really slow. All of a sudden, a Coopers Hawk swoops in and snatches one of the decoys and flies away!!! Not realizing that it was a cardboard silhouette! Well, it gets about 25 yrds and tries to take a bite out of it! Oops! Immediately drops it, and lands, dejected in a pine.biggrinbiggrin Walked to where it was, picked it up, then took the other Crow, Fish up and sent in Hootie! Hootie was not impressed!biggrin

Just think about it, there are some people out there who are very concerned about how realistic their crow decoys should look

Thats a funny story Dixie. You really fooled them.
I had a hawk hit my spinning coyote decoy one time while I was coyote hunting. I laughed so hard and couldnt stop laughing that I had to call the hunt. The hawk was not immused! Lol

Good story, Dixie! Never saw a decoy stolen by a hawk.

I've seen many hawks come in to investigate, and had one hit our decoy in front of us. We heard a loud "CLUNK" and saw the hawk standing in front of the decoy, wondering what the heck just happened.

We have also had hawks swoop in and pick off our wounded crows (never a dead one). And once I had a sentry decoy thrown over a high branch, anchored to the ground via some monofilament line. A hawk flew into the monofilament, twirled around a couple of times and finally flew off shaking his head!

It's not just killing crows. Seeing these special things just adds to the joy of hunting!
