I'm only going to post these one at a time as this software does not take most of my photos.

Big Honkers will post some of my photos as this site needs to be updated so it will take larger files like other sites do.

I love reading every ones' experiences here  I don't care if it's one like me where I used to walk down back roads with little traffic where'd I would load my gun with one round and sneak along the road then using trees as camouflage until I got close enough to pop out and squeeze of a round dropping one but I was quite young then and you would have to get one any way you can...but I never knew you could eat them!

But one experience I shall never forget was the one day when you could see crows horizen to horizen..my friend and I were in a blind and could hear what sounded like distant crows but despite glassing the horizen I couldn't see them when suddenly overhead(3,500 feet?) like airborne fleas was the biggest flock I ever saw!! They did indeed stretch from mountain to mount and they came down and we managed but 5 before they realized what was going on. We were amazed! But we never saw that again I swear.  It was possibly the most unlikely place as we were getting 5 or 6 which was all we could expect up to 12 in that particular off the beaten path way..but you could count on 5 generally...

It would be the last hurrah for that area anyways. Interestingly enough that winter it was rough..I think we got 3 foot of snow that year...

*My point is that one area was not known for that kind of crow activity...later on however oddly a possibly third of that huge flock regularly showed up at this one farm I used to frequent before it dried up....at this point had to be roughly 350 crows for a few weeks(yes it was late October) and they roosted about a quarter mile up on a tall ridgeline where all they had to do was wake up and glide onto the field awaiting below...

At this point I wasn't shooting there any more and you ask why? Easy. I could set up within hearing distance and get one and they'd all depart for the season.....they were all bunching up at this point being late fall. That is crow behavior here in mid october through November or so it appears...but there is also a lesson here too...just because one or two frequent the field doesn't mean a few more might not pop up occasionally either...which is better..just hang around popping the occasional straggler versus watching hundreds of departing crows!

So far Big Honkers has not checked his e-mail but when he does he will post the photos I have e-mailed to him.

I shot my 164,000th crow this season in 44 crow seasons.

In 44 seasons in my company (guys I have shared shoots with, old hunting partners) we went over the 250,000 mark this season. Now if I could make a wish I wish I had four dollars for every one of those crows! As my partner Dick would say "dream on"

Some awesome looking blinds there, nice and open or in low stuff as I like. Cotton batten in the ears for protection?

Hi Randy, I see you are from Iowa.

My old hunting partner was from Sioux City and we had 21 seasons together before his health went south.

Glad you enjoyed looking at the photos, Big Honkers did a great job posting them..

Bob A,

I'm on the other side of the state but have a good friend from SC.

I see you're from Hutchinson, KS. I played ball out there four or five times in the late '90's early '00's. They have some nice fields west of town.

Didn't have much time to look around but every time we left I took some time to drive around ADM'S grain storage facility. Darn thing was half a mile long. There may be bigger but I've never seen 'em.

Thanks again for those photos. A guy can almost smell the air in them.

Randy
