Wish me luck, last hunt of the season...

Hi lads,

Sunday will be the last hunt of this years hunting season (the hunting year ends on 31st of march in germany).

Officially crow season has already officially ended, but we've managed to get a special extension due to crop damage. We'll set up on a field where there's about 70 crows about. If we get 20 we'll be happy.... I'll post pics and a report.

Crows have been baited with corn. They have been shot withrifle the last two days all around the spot to give it a sense of safety. Decoys have been scrubbed clean from the last outing. Decoy magpies and pigeons are packed.

Bring it on!

Ps: Thanks for the good luck wishes.

An excellent day was had by everyone except for 23 crows, a magpie and a pigeon.

Due to the change to summertime in germany I was quite nervous in the evening. Would my alarm go off at the right time? It did. I also got a text from my blind partner (are you up?) And the timer went off too! Better safe than sorry.

So we set up the crow decoys, the pigeons, magpies and two sentinels in the pitch dark, put the cars away and got that final coffee before things were expected to start.

Things started with a magpie that liked our blind so much, it stayed with us all morning.

We had a steady flight of single crows and pairs coming in. Most stayed as we were in very good shooting form today and left very few witnesses to tell the tale....

What DID go wrong was the antifreeze we treated the decoys with (it froze! TWICE!) And we did not notice a dead crow lying 25meters behind the blind. Those two mishaps cost us 5-10 crows. Apart from that we were very happy with the result and we were lucky to get an extension of the season for Crows, Magpies, Pigeons and Geese. We were only allowed to shoot 20 Geese, so we stopped shooting them at 0.

I was very chuffed with my lab girl. She's 3 now and turned out a great retrieving dog. I got her when she was 18 months ols and she is getting better and better.

I hope you'll like the pictures.

AtB,

Zedd
