10ga and I got out today, the weather was sunny with a light SW west wind. We did not see any crows migrating today but there was a good number of migrant birds milling about our location. We hunted from first light until 1:30 PM and put 89 birds on the ground. We used a pair of vintage auto loaders, a Remington 1100 and Browning Double Automatic. There was a lot of wildlife moving early, a hundred or more Wood ducks, many flights of Canada geese and for awhile we had as many as six deer in front of us.

Great post NH Crowshooter. Love those DA Brownings. Very unique shotguns, on par with doubles... I have a late 50's steel receiver that must have shot thousands of crows. The one in your photo appears to be a dragon black aluminum twelvette. Keep up the good hunts and fine photos for all here to enjoy.

Good eye Ted, it is a Dragon Black aluminum receiver "Twelvette". 7lbs even with a 30" barrel. I bought this year as a birthday present to self. The previous owner put thinwall choke tubes in it. I have a Skeet 1 (48% at 40 yards) and a Mod (68% at 40 yards) for it. It seems to need at least a 1 ounce load around 1200 fps to cycle reliably. They are a unique design, the rate of fire is much faster than a double gun thanks to the speed port on the left side if the receiver. You never have to take your eyes off the birds as a feed it more ammo and it's nice that it automatically goes into being in battery.
NH, you're going to find that DA's function better with stiffer loads. I usually use 1 1/8 oz charges at 1255 or so fps. Being an inertia, action double automatics seem to recoil back and forward a bit much like an airgun. This is very noticeable with lighter loads as the action seems to cycle a tad slower with the aforementioned...and yes, if firepower is ones goal, the DA would be inadequate. I have learned to shoot with a couple shells between my fingers or left hand and load quickly much like a double express big game rifle. Auto reload feature common with Brownings is wonderful. Enjoy your new acquisition and don't be shy to post pics of this awesome shotgun!

The 1100 is a 28 in. full not a choke tubed barrel, this gun shoot great,( I hope I didn't just jinx myself ), been shooting very well with that combo and 1 oz of 6's. Shoots 85% patterns with that load.
10ga and NHC are really doing well-well-actually perfect for NH. Still until very recently probably the first to do so well bereft any others who remain unknown if at all, far better than Bert Perpowski ever did in all New England so keep up the good work.
Why did Remington go beyond the 1100? I mean of course make a new model? From what I have seen of 1100s where I go you better grab one as they seemingly grow wings!!

10ga,
As they say, "her choke is fixed, the way God intended".
85% is nice and tight. I'll bet those sixes leave very few hoppers when you're on.
