A New Toy For Me...Bad Day For the Crows
Permalink

Made the big jump couple weeks ago and purchased a new from line e-caller, namely the Foxpro Shockwave. Did a bit of research this winter and came to the conclusion that the Shockwave would best suit my coyote hunting needs and double as a great front line crow caller. Put the Shockwave through its first field trials yesterday morning with excellent results. Loaded with features, some of which I will probably never use, I found the sound to be clear, crisp and battery life of the unit itself was great given the cold conditions yesterday. I look forward to the many good shoots to come with this unit employed and have thus tired my worn old FX3 to a backup equipment. Few pics below of my frosty morning and some of the unlucky crows that fell victim...

Congrats, what is your battery life? How long are your long stands when you hunt?

Can't really accurately answer you're question NhCrow as my hunt was only an hour due to time constraints. Further, the unit is powered by 10 AA cells which were brand new NiMH rechargeables and after an hour of almost continuous calling at high volume the power indicator hardly moved off the full charge position. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised as atmospheric temperatures were on the cold side at -5 Celsius or about 23 degrees in the Fahrenheit system.

I found the remote to run down rather quickly though. It is however powered with 3 AA cells and these were the alkaline throw away jobs which don't stand up well under colder temperature conditions. I will have more time to hunt tomorrow morning and plan to give the Shockwave a complete field trial. Will post my findings as well.

I have the rechargeable battery in my shockwave and it will last all day at least. Never had it go dead

Hi Ted,

I have similar results with my Shockwave and remote.  I use the Lithium battery block upgrade from FOXPRO and it will run for hours on the base unit.  For the TX1000 remote, I like the Everready Lithium for maximum life.

Enjoy your new more powerful crow caller, I expect more great photo's from you with fine Winchester steel and walnut in the background or foreground, sir!

Regards,

Nice shotgun, I also have a new Benelli Montefeltro that's going crow hunting when the season opens in 18 days but walnut and blue pump guns will also see some action but so far the Benelli has been lucky.

I have one with the rechargeable battery and it will last for over 20 hours with out charge. I have two batteries and run them until they go dead and replace with a fully charged one.
