We hunted a new pecan orchard 2 1/2 weeks ago and got 27 crows. It is a good sized orchard, but most of the trees are young and just starting to bear nuts. The owners are quite anxious about their new venture, so when the crows returned, they were quick to call me back for a return trip. They talked me into coming back before the normal 4 week wait, so I was worried about call shy birds and low numbers.
Sure enough, the first crows were call shy and very wary in spite of a heavily brushed blind. After about an hour, fresh birds started coming in and it was business as usual. The biggest problem was the wind which muted the calling and chilled us Southerners in the 46 degree weather! Not to worry...the Little Buddy heaters made life bearable.
We ended up with 33 crows so the owners were very pleased. Here are the picture:
1) Decoys, flapper & dead birds. 2) Brushed blind. 3) Heaters at work. 4) Ted with the victims.
Looks like a very pleasant place to hunt, much like a golf course fairway! Can it possibly be that cold to warrant running two Little Buddy heaters Demi ? ....oh wait a minute, I'm a Canadian. Nice kill there
Ted

I agree with Ted in the fact that the buddy heaters may have been a bit much. Looks as though frostbite didn’t cause any problems with you guys trigger fingers haha. Nice hunt on smart crows Demi.

Been there myself, wanting to help them out but I've went early (before 4wks) 3 times with the same results. Tuff huntin, Good you did get some fresh birds in. Well done!
