The winter roost in Auburn NY, I was there and saw it in person 20 some years ago, it's unbelievable, sensory overload for the targeting computer in your head.

NH, Jerry Byroad ( from Maryland ) and I used to hunt them around Auburn NY back in the mid two thousands. It's a shame that they haze them as they are very spooky and hard to call as a result. We hunted around another roost 40 miles west of there around Geneva NY with better results but nothing to brag about. You could shoot anywhere from 100 to 135 a day both morning and afternoon hunts. Many of the Auburn crows moved to Geneva to get away from the harassment. This is why Jerry spent a month a year out here with me because he got much better shooting.

The roost in Wichita was a real hot spot from the late 1970's to around 2000 to 2001 and it was finished because they started to haze them and as a result they moved out! Wichita never had 100,000 crows that is a gross exaggeration, perhaps 50,000. Boyd and I had some dandy shoots down there in the 1980's. Our best day was 859 crows from one spot all day long from around 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All 20 gauge with a 7/8th ounce load of # 8's. On the film clips on the home page there are a few clips taken right on the Arkansas River where we had a fair amount of 500 plus bird shoots; this footage was taken in 2000 the last really good year down there. Another hunt down there was the soybean field hunt which is in one of the film clips on the home page where 447 crows were shot on a morning hunt in the mid to late 1990's.

In a neighboring state ( Pennsylvania) Jerry had the largest solo shoot I ever heard of with a 410 gauge shotgun. He used a Winchester model 42 pump gun with 3 inch shells with a 3/4 ounce of 7 1/2 shot. He shot over 500 crows from noon time until sundown in one spot near Gettysburg Pennsylvania during the early 1980's. He said the birds were really soft in that area as he was the only one who hunted that area in those days.

Jerry used to spend a month out here with me hunting crows, we did not hunt everyday but still got our licks in. He loved it so much he dreaded going back to Maryland every year. Can't believe it's been 10 years since he passed away already. Time sure goes fast so get your licks in while your still young you'll enjoy it more, trust me!
