Been a mediocre fall this far with the crows. Half dozen here dozen there, nothing spectacular.
Out of at first light this morning and found a huge group had moved into my theatre of operation, perhaps 5000 birds or more.
Short of it, I cracked 49 crows this morning and a few probables. All this within an hour of furious shooting. Many doubles and one scotch double. Then ran out of ammunition if you can believe that.
For some reason I only packed two boxes of shells and perhaps a dozen in my vest from the time before. Talk about a rookie mistake. Pics below for your enjoyment.

49+ crows with a two & a half boxes is some very fine shooting. Congratulations on a good hunt. Now load up on ammo for your rematch and show us photos of your pickup filled with the carnage!

Got off to a great start this morning, clear, calm and frosty. Killed first 28 crows without missing a shot less a follow up shot to drop one. Wind picked up from the absolute wrong direction as crows feeding on distant farmland couldn’t hear my call.
First pic below, “lane of death” where crows follow up calling in higher trees to the left. My blind was perfectly situated to take advantage of this in a dry willow slough to the right.
Interesting sunrise with smoke in the air from western US wildfires, dead bandit and some frosty covered shrubs.
Geez, thanks for the commentary guys, and the complements. Truthfully, hunting solo as I most often do allows one to pick the "plum" shots and pass on those that are questionable. Typically only take shots that I know I can make which is tough to do when hunting with another person. Couple this with my fathers venerable well worn M12 pump...I call it "Crowmageddon", makes for some decent strings of kills. This shotgun was fitted with a Polychoke apparently back in the 1950's and throws one of the most incredible patterns when set between IC and Modified with 7 1/2 shot. Just need a south or south west wind and I'll be back at them.

Shot another 40 this morning. Clear, cold but the south wind as promised never materialized. Crows too showed much more prowess as I’ve shot this group a bit now. Few more pics below for your enjoyment
That's some fine shooting ,Ted. Looks like you're having some fun. (I'd call forty nine in less than an hour furious shooting for two guys). I'd have liked to seen the Scotch double!
You do need to be admonished for running out of shells, though.

Yup that venerable old M12 has some miles on it. Was my fathers shotgun which he bought new after the war in 1949 I believe. It was fitted with a Poly Choke some point in the 50's which throws a wonderful pattern around the Modified setting. I own other much more "modern" weaponry but shoot shoot so well with this 12 that its most natural to reach for it should crows be in mind.

Bought that Weatherby 20 gauge for my son when he was 12. Deal was if he got 100% on his hunter safety test I would buy him a new auto loader. Naturally he got 100% and promptly marched me over to The gun counter! I have plenty of 12 gauge shotguns, a few 16s as well. Some are modern and some vintage. I do personally enjoy shooting vintage shotguns especially model 12s.Just my thing I guess...
