After coming back from a road trip where the birds had a lot of hunting pressure I hit a local spot near a pecan grove, I usually hit this place in October but I left it alone this year till today. Got set up facing north with a brisk south wind, I was at the edge of a hay field about 500 yards from the grove. I was in the shade with the decoys in front of me & the caller off to the side facing the pecan grove. right after first light I heard a few but saw none, I turned on the caller & here came three instantly, right in front of me hovering in the wind nice and low. I dropped the first one & the other two circled around so I got another. These birds had never been called or shot at, In less than two hours I downed 65 with quite a few doubles since most of the time they didn't know where the shot came from and returned. What a difference shooting birds that haven't been harassed before ! I was using the tanglefree solo 360 blind with a little johnson grass to hide my upper body, and a face mask of course. Paul

Paul,

Just when a guy thinks there's not a green crow left in the entire world. That's quite a clip for one guy in less than two hours. Nicely done.

The 360 with the Johnson grass is similar to ours when we use switch grass. Our switch grass is a bit taller and woven tighter. I'll post a picture next time we use them.

 Thanks for the great report.

So just two days after getting 65 I went to another area just 4 miles from there, it's a soybean field that's been picked and I've seen as many as 30 or so crows out there. With it being so close to the area I shot at 2 days ago I didn't expect to get 20 or so but after 4 hours I had 115 down. They just kept coming back for more. The shotgun blast really didn't bother them much. I'd call for 5 or 10 minutes till they quit coming in then give them a short break and hit the caller again and they kept coming back. I had a few hoppers that flamed out about 200 yards out and they would come and land by the hoppers and I'd hit the caller and up they would jump and come right to me. So in this case the hoppers did me some good. Almost all the crows I saw committed to the caller and came in low and easy. Had a few get in about 15 feet of me and those are tough, when you raise the gun they take evasive action ! It's amazing how fast the clicker tally's up when the crow's respond and you miss very few. I broke the lens on my cell camera so had blurry pics & I used my camera to take the pics off my phone. It was quite a kill zone, I wish Dale had been there with the kill zone cam. Paul.

Randy, That crow hunter I ran into told me that way back when he hunted at Ft. cobb Oklahoma he met Bud Grant there at the crow roost motel. Were you aware that Bud was a crow hunter ? Paul.

I did not know that Paul. But I'm not surprised.

I listened to a radio interview with him last spring, on or close to his 94th birthday. He still hunts, but said now the game has to to come to him. I hope I can hunt crows at that age.

Thanks for sharing that information and have a blessed Christmas.

Yes Bob the softies are much easier but few to be found. You know I remember when we were up at your place to see the crow museum you told us that when you met Boyd he really put you on top of your game. When I asked you what it was that he did that helped you out so much with your crow hunting you put your finger to your mouth to make the gesture ( keep quiet ) .  That wasn't what I was expecting to hear but it sure makes sense. Paul.
