That is 150 between my partner and I. Went out 15 times this season. The last two seasons have been off years to be sure!

I shot my 170,000th crow this season (my lifetime total) and finished with 170,809 crows.

I can tell that I am not as agile as I was 10 years ago. Father time catches up with all of us if we live long enough. I will be 74  next week and it gets to be more work with each passing season now. It's nice to be able to laugh at yourself, I feel like I have now been reduced to some old duffer stumbling around in the dark getting ready for a morning hunt.

Hi Bob!

Any thoughts as to why the last couple seasons have been off for you? More hunters & more pressure?

Correct Jason. Our average per hunt for the season used to be in the 170's to 190's or more going back just 5 or 6 seasons.

On a normal season I would get out at least 24 times, this season only 15 times because the birds were too spooky.

So, you have to hit it while you can these days in the areas that I hunt. "The early bird gets the worm!"

What's the word on Joby and his partner? You still run into them?

Bob,

"Don't Let The Old Man In!" You can make 200K, easily before putting up your crow gun!

But if you want to hit a quarter of a million, you will need to pick up the pace, because at 150 birds X 15 hunts/per year... you will be 110 years old before killing # 250K. biggrinbiggrin

DON'T GIVE UP!!

Demi

Bob,

I have exchanged messages with Joby a time or two. In my limited conversations with him it sounds like him & Brian are no longer a duo.

I see, possibly they were not getting enough shooting, shooting together.

Jason, 200,000 no way. That would take me 10 years if I was still shooting 3,000 or more each season.

I still get around (just slower) and if the shooting is good I feel like a kid again.

Dick said "you need to get a new pickup" I said "Dick, I don't know which is gonna give out first, me or the pickup" LOL.

Very good chatting with you Jason.

Demi, I still get around ok, just not near as fast as say 5 years ago.

200,000 would be doable if the shooting was still the way it was just a few years ago, but not now. Not unless things change for the better which I doubt.

I went out solo for an afternoon flyway shoot on February 19th and the birds did not move until the last hour of daylight. I shot 77 crows from 5:10 P.M. to 6:15 P.M. had a nice breeze of a steady 15 mph and 45 degrees out. The breeze strung them out where they were coming just a few at a time which made it a fun afternoon. A guy just has to take what he can get these days. Ya get what ya get!

Hope you are doing well my friend.

Thanks to the internet we now have a lot more people hunting crows. I really believe that now by the time the crows get to Kansas they are well educated. Last time I went out and started calling the crows took off and flew away from us.
