Amazing FOUR hunts in nearly the same place!!

In years past when we were mostly "run and gunning" we rarely hunted the same spot more than once a year.. sometimes twice seperated by quite a few weeks. We switched about 10 years ago to hunting peanut and pecans orchards/fields or any "feeding" set up. But still I did not hunt the same place more than twice duing our season because of too many educated birds!  Then there as a 10 day period last month that was a first for me despite 68 years of chasing crows. First day began at 0700 in a stand of pines near where I had seen 150-200 birds feeding. By 11 my buddy and I had harvested exactly 100! We went home. For some reason I (alone) went back at 2 pm as I felt like there were some birds we had not educated. My TBC ( total body count) went up by 71 = 171 for that day...a Wednesday. I returned two days later..Friday at 2 pm again and added 51 then the next Wednesday dropped 53 = 275! Cound not stand it so I headed back 3 days later...a very windy Saturday and totaled 16 or 291 in the SAME place. Double WOW! I used only one decoy.. dead crow mounted in battery powered device, Foxpro HellCat, my Turpin mouth call, (both used together are better that either one alone ) Fiocchi 7.5 shot at 1250 fps with LM Mueller choke on Browning Maxus II.  I am a fortunate person!

Skip,

Thats some good fun. Could you tell if they became warier and warier each time out? Or maybe, you didn't educate many, the ones that came in are dead. wink Fine shooting educates less crows.

Thanks for sharing and keep after 'em.

 Randy

Randy good question! Am sure NONE of the educated ones that survived each outing....returned! I think I somehow got into a larger bunch of crows that I ever expected because the ones that responded to me EACH hunt were full of enthusiasm.. and I know you know what I mean.  I do plan to return just to try my luck again.. but not for a week  or two due to some other duties! Hard to fool brer crow  more than once!!  smile

Way to go Skip!  Nothing better than a stand that keeps producing.

Final update on my "four hunt" extravanza which is now five hunts as of last Saturday. I was eager to breach the 300 KIA total as reaching that  number in ONE place would be the second time I have done that in North Carolina. The only other occasion  was a TBC of 351 in one morning but I sort of consider reaching 300 over a 4 week period at the SAME place mostly the same though it ain't and I know that! So last Saturday, messing and taunting a bunch of  "educated" crows I managed to drop 20 in 2.5 hours ( slow going but they had their  Ph.D.s ) but it pushed my total to 3011. Mission accomplished!! smile
