I'm gonna try some pics again. The white stuff in the feed lot is why I cant retrieve my dead birds. I'ts a semi caustic lime that burns your skin when you touch it. We never build a hide Shane cause they are either really dumb, or maybe it's the deeks. Anyway we put em on the ground and the farmer loves it!!!!! Shootin them birds with that model 42 is the funnest thing a man can do,,,, 2 1/2 inch no. 6's
The flying deek is on a shepards hook that you hang plants on. Its one that John Boos from California sent me. I shot a pigeon that actually tried to light on it. You cant put any deeks on the ground, they have to be high enough that the cows cant reach. They are curious animals. They will lick or stomp or piss on anything that is new to the area. I plan on hitting the pigeons again soon but the lime the farmer put on the ground has changed the way they feed,,,will keep you guys posted!!!!!!!!!
Bob I just read your reply Look a little closer at the pic of the gun on my tail gate... I should have got more of the barrel in my pic. I'ts the model 12's grandson,,, And I shot them birds with 2 1/2 inch number 6's. Twerent no easy task but fun as hell!!! Most gratifying too!!!
Why were you shooting 2 1/2 inch hulls? Is it an old nickle steel barrel with a 2 5/8 th's inch chamber? Any decent gunsmith can make it 2 3/4 inches for you!
I used a pair of model 12 20 gauges for years on crows. I still hunt quail on occassion with a 20 gauge model 12.
I can remember my first really big shoot by myself back in the late 1970's with a 20 gauge model 12. I shot 410 crows with 632 rounds of 20 gauge ammo and ran out that day! I was sick, I could have shot a lot more if I would have had more ammo in the bed of the pickup. But you live and learn as time goes on in this game!
Talk to you soon.

No No Its a model 42 410 and I refuse to pay 10 to 12 bucks a box for 3 inch shells for it. I found the 2 1/2 inchers on sale for 6.25 a box and bought a half case. I only shoot pigeons with em. I shoot crows with the 9's and payed the big bucks for them......... I will take it with me and if the birds are working really good I go to the truck and break it out. I get the feeling Josey Wales got when he was pulling out his Missouri boat ride sniper rifle.....
Well Mr. Carpetbagger down here we call this a Missouri boat ride!!!!
Jonathan, I'm glad you saw the post,,,, The pigeons love the movement. Thay are much easier to fool than crows. My first three hunts on the farm were with reguler full body pigeon deeks. After a while they started getting smarter. When I put the flapper out I never done a thing to it. Just put batts in it and let her go. I really did have one try to light on the flapper....He never got the job done though,,,It works wonders thanx again!!!
